Yeah registering to vote as a republican or Democrat is so weird to me. In Texas, you are considered "registered" as one just if you vote in one primary over the other since you can't vote in both (to prevent people hijacking opposite party's primaries)

But I think in some states you have to actually register as one and you aren't allowed to vote in the other primary unless you re-register which has a deadline. So if you're a swing voter you have to decide before hand which primary is more important to you

Parties won’t ever go anywhere. Most countries have them. Hamilton warned the US against them, but contrary to some people’s beliefs people do typically fall in line on certain issues and disagree with groups of people with a different set of issues they believe in.

It basically goes back to human behavior and why tribalism exists in the first place and why it’s so hard to not group up based on things. Red or blue voter, WWE or AEW, Red Sox or Yankees, Ford or Chevy etc.

I’m preregistrated as a Republican and if I wanted to vote in the Democratic primary I’d have to reregister.
