Clock Tower 3 was my most played one, unsure where that ranks for you Barry. I have fond memories of it, but it's been a long ass time. I had it for PS2 and I know it changed a lot of the previous games with the point and click gameplay being done away with.

F.) To expand further, with half the house knocked out, give a story reason for why. Have that area of the house be the Girls' quarters for the beginning of the game, and then have an earthquake knock that area out for the rest of the game. By then, the girls have disappeared, Mary is missing, and Jennifer is all alone in the wreckage.

I used to fucking hate CT3, but now I appreciate it a lot more, especially since it was directed by the guy who did Battle Royale

Long story short, Clock Tower is my favorite game of all time, but its flaws, though minor, could be massively improved upon and a remake/update would be awesome these days

I do remember it wasn't super long, but I did really like the story and atmosphere of it. It at least drew me in all those years ago to finish it. I definitely do prefer the point and click style of the original though.

I think with a little tuning up, better story progression, some set-up, and better gameplay mechanics, Clock Tower: The First Fear could go from in my opinion a 9.5/10 to a big 10/10. And hell, you can even keep the quick start mode as well.
