i would still bet money that there's more eyeballs around the world watching wrestling now than every before. its just not all on tv
I mean you're not wrong, the advent of the internet made it impossible for it to be any less watched than ever before.

And even by old school metrics, AEW packed United Stadium and WWE had allegedly 50k in Vegas the next night. That's pretty fucking successful

For sure, back then the gates were the important part and tv ratings were a secondary part of it.

Nah that isnt the case Chris, during the days of the attitude era they had several million viewers, now they are down to just around 1 or 2, they have lost around 80% of their audience over the years and over time it just keeps dropping more and more.

(Not saying it's better adjusted for inflation compared to 80s tho)

Exactly, which is what Jim Cornette's biggest problem with wrestling had become. When he was wrestling, it was the gate that was the important part, you used TV to drive people to the events so the gate is bigger and you get a bigger slice of it; nowadays, it's the ratings that are more important and tbh it's probably been this way since 1995.

That is an important distrinction true, but truth be told if we do cosnider the possible numbers outside of the US then their numbers in the attitude era were even bigger then too
