It kinda depends on how big a star you are. Bruiser Brody could get away with it because there were other places to go at the time and he was a fucking megastar in Japan, Steve Austin couldn't do it because where the fuck could he go? Punk too couldn't get away with it because where's he gonna go that will pay him millions of dollars? Impact? Maybe New Japan.
