If Sephiroth is the brooding sympathetic villain that everyone knows is the big bad, Kefka is the psychopathic side villain that actually attains godhood because he's the only one actually willing to do the morally unscrupulous to accomplish his goals.
Whatever Sephiroth does pales in complete comparison to Kefka literally poisoning a town's water supply just because he could and was determined to win at all costs.
Basically Kefka represents everything that Final Fantasy VI is trying to say, that even in the darkest circumstances, people will still rise to the occasion and pull the scraps back together to reform life. Kefka wins but once he actually attains godhood and destroys the world, he has nothing left to do, he's like a child that finally has everything he wanted and only now realizes that it's fucking boring.
He is the protagonists' literal darkest moment. Even in the face of a fucking God, they stand firm and rise to defeat him against all odds. It's actually kinda beautiful just how important Kefka is to Final Fantasy lore.
he's my favorite ff villain for sure. and thats not really putting down others either they all have cool shit about them. but kefka and Sabin are like my fave characters lol
