They aren't really worshipping or dedicating their life to anything, and they aren't expecting any kind of payoff. The whole thing really just boils down to "live your life because there is no higher being and there's nothing after this". But they also teach to not be harmful to other humans. So it's kinda like "live your life and don't do shit that's gonna fuck with someone else trying to live their life because there is no higher being and there's nothing after this".
