you can make a cloud save but it's only if your system is broken or stolen, you basically have to call nintendo and get permission to re download it.

they have a new thing at least now where you can transfer to a new system I believe but you have to do it ahead of time.

like go into the menu and say, "im moving to a new system" and then it will upload it and then on your new system you can choose to import your island.
