Social media makes everything seem worse because people are way more connected with it. But you had the news, you had groups, etc always forming to get stuff canceled. South Park was a huge thing parents, mainly moms went after in the late 90s early 2000s.

It's new if you're saying it was exactly the way it is now. I couldn't name 10 celebrities that got cancelled for mundane things before the social media age. All you can name is the Dixie Chicks. Compared to the hundreds today. I don't see how you act like that's not way different, but whatever. It's always been around. You win.
