Man, to act like it's not a byproduct of social media, and more liberal "woke" culture, is to be naïve as hell. It's far different today. I could name you you like 20 shows that existed between 1995 and 2015 that would never see the light of day today because corporations would fear the social media backlash. And who was being cancelled over 10-year-old tweets in 2001? The Dixie Chicks thing is people simply choosing to not pay for their stuff because they didn't like what they said currently but it wasn't a witch hunt campaign to force companies to stop hiring them and for them to stop working and shit. It's different. Way different. Shit, that band was touring last year last I heard after dropping the name Dixie over more accurate cancel culture pushback.
