can someone explain to me what it means when someone gifts you a subscription to their twitch channel?

a popular thing on twitch if or people to buy other people a sub to a channel they are watching, kind of like a pay it forward thing. A lot of times it's just a bragging right. People come in and drop 20 gift subs to someone. I'll get one sometimes even tho I was only in the chat for like 3 minutes. They just choose the random gift option and it picks people that have been in the chat room within the last few hours.

Too cheap to sub and all the streamers I usually watch are all millionaires, so feels dumb

I had like 7 gift subs at one point, all streamers I don't even watch I just hopped on their stream for like 5 minutes to see what was up.

I think also if you get gifted a stream, you can pass it to someone else if you don't want it. I just don't know how.
