starts in like February and leads up to Easter. Christians pick something to give up during that time to represent jesus' sacrifice or something.

because giving up soda is the same as giving your life

its like ramadan - but instead of fasting, they generally give something up

It seems to mostly just be a Catholic thing at least in the south, and we don't have many catholics anyway lol

So not a lot of people give up stuff for lent here despite being super religious, I think maybe methodists do as well but idk

a common one is people give up meat for lent.

when I worked retail I would always make a freezer door of fish sticks and tater tots during lent, they sold like crazy
