I tried a loss prevention officer job and it was the worse. I could catch people red handed and was good at it because nobody expects a native to be in security....but it sucked ass

I did it at Best Buy and I was basically a scarecrow

all I could do was stand at the door like a door greeter basically and then I had a camera I could watch and if I saw something I had to keep the camera on them and call a manager and if the camera lost contact of them at all we had to start over.

so many people I saw steal shit but couldn't do anything because the camera lost sight of them because they ducked behind an aisle or something.

and then they'd walk out the door and the detector would go off but if they didn't have a bag or anything we can't search them. Could only search what was inside a best buy shopping bag.

We only were able to actually "catch" someone stealing one time in the 12+ years I worked at Dollar General. We observed them on camera and called the Police. Usually Police response time is like 40 minutes or more where I live. Luckily that day one got there within about 30 minutes and the people were at the register when he walked in. They were paying for some stuff but had stolen a lot of stuff too.

Deputy walks in and asks them to step outside. He then asked the Lady to look at her purse (huge purse stuffed full of merchandise) She refused and they ended up in a struggle with him trying to get the bag. The guy went to his truck and started going behind the seat. The Deputy noticed and pulled his gun and ordered the guy away from the truck.
