Yeah, Kefka and Joker are very similar.

Big difference though is that Kefka is nihilistic, pessimistic, and cynical. He wants to see everything destroyed, because people suffering is what makes him think he is validating himself. He's essentially The Joker if instead of creating chaos, focused on wanton destruction and human suffering only.

Kefka's biggest mistake was letting the main characters live, because he easily could have killed them, but he was confused, or more realistically could not fathom the fact they still had hope and resolve even after he ruined the world.

Yeah Joker's never really had his motives expanded upon enough to say he feels anything like that other than enjoying chaos

Anytime they do...it gets retconned

And even worse, once he actually became a god, he realized that there was nothing more he could do. He became trapped by his own nihilism. So much so, that when he died, he accepted it with insane glee because he accepts that he would eventually have destroyed everything and himself.

He also has the most iconic laugh in video game history.
