One of the big things I'm liking about Sopranos so far is how Tony isn't a complete fucking idiot. I feel like I run into this issue with a lot of serious, "high stakes" shows and movies, especially nowadays, where the main characters just can't stop fucking themselves over, and these issues always arise from the characters not being able to have a simple conversation and work out basic things. It's very offputting to me.

Like some shit will happen that causes a misunderstanding between two characters and they have some kind of argument and the one character is trying to reconcile but somehow fails to mention the one crucial detail that would easily explain the issue and allow them to move on.

Yeah that is a common theme

Happens all the time in modern shit. Maybe in older shit too, but I notice it more with new things.

Or a character will see or hear something, misread the situation, and basically nuke their entire lives in reaction to the thing they misunderstood.
