we settled here when it was still a part of Mexico, in St Augustine/Center and I would assume also Nac but I didn't find proof

My family on my mom's side has major heat with Nac being called the oldest town in Texas bc they say it's really San Augustine

yeah it was like from Virginia to Georgia to Texas in 60 or so years and then no movement until I left in 2021

That seems very common when it comes to Americans with German ancestry... I'm pretty sure most US soldiers in Germany are stationed in the southwest here i.e. close to France

And of course when you go further back in European history it's even more usual

I recently had the revelation that since my grandpa on my mom's side was a straight up classic farmer, with few exceptions most other ancestors besides him also did that, so I'm one of the few not doing that in history

Only thing I can say is I was down a rabbit hole on Ancestry one night and I did find where some of my direct ancestors came over from England and fought in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812.
