Besides, I'd rather see a former athlete or a coach, to host the ESPYs, since it's about sports not comedians.

that is completely false, he was fired from SNL 5 years ago cuz of an Asian joke he made on a podcast years before that. They’ve since had him on numerous time as a guess host and the Asian Gay cast member of SNL Bowen Yang has publicly stated his support for Gillis after that because it was a silly joke. He’s also been a hugely successful stand up since and has a show on Netflix that just dropped it’s second season.

Typically the best hosts for events like this are comedians or other stage performers.
