I watched TNA around that time... but my heart wasn't in it

I found even at the time I thought it was a very short term gain but a good concept for that short term

I felt the same about raw underground lol

Like there was never going to be a good payoff, it was just going to be dropped but enjoy it while it lasted bc it's fun as fuck

And at least that lives on with NXT underground

The open fight night could maybe work in AEW with their chaos of authority figures, I feel like that's the only way it worked in TNA

I think the problem with that concept in AEW is that there are already too many moments where it's like "I went to Tony and bam, we have Match, bitch"

If they'd tone that crutch down or cut it completely out and then bring that concept in for a special show week, heck fuckin' yeah. That could be a hell of a chaotic funtime

Yeah that's almost the beauty of it tho, you just reword those segments where you have to kayfabe why matches are being booked with public callouts that get the crowd more pumped

The one major issue is why everyone doesn't just call out champions tho lol but I feel like TNA even said champions were excluded or they had a choice or something

Well... that's just Wrestling logic

It worked so well for babyfaces actually getting a fair shake at heels to an extent which was sorely missing at that time in TNA

I would probably do it like if one challenges a Champion, then the Champion can choose a stipulation (within reason or Wrestling logic, of course)

You just go to the ring and call them out and maybe they bring lackeys but you can get a few shots in first lmao
