Many people called it out but offenses towards white people are understandably given much more leeway. Especially since most people who were upset about it were moreso upset about a double standard than they were offended by the very act of whiteface. Though if he were someone who wasn't independently famous, I think he almost certainly would have faced repercussions.

There's definitely a subset of the PC warriors that always struck me as being just as scared of celebrating these cultures they were worried about offending too and that rubbed me the wrong way

cuz you’re intelligent and can understand intention and stuff like that…far to many people are far to narrow for that

If white people do want a little more freedom to joke about others, they probably shouldn't go super defensive and try and stop it when people do it about them I guess tho. The more it's normalized for one, it probably will end up creeping back in for everyone. But ending it all could be it

I remember back in probably 2019, some folks were mad at NBA players for saying "pause" in a press conference (basically the modern and much less inflammatory "no homo") which was one point in time where I had to be like damn, we getting on people's ass for anything these days

yeah lol just being offended by the double standard never wins sympathy for me. Then they try and lie and say they were really hurt by it and can't keep a straight face. It's why it's harder to be upset about it for me, and then of course bc I'm also the target and just don't feel offense lol

White people need some equal equivalent of every situation which doesn't really work when we're operating on hundreds of years of inequality. There's no math A=B for what's offensive to each culture

Yeah lots of those types like to pretend they are outraged on principle because they can't say racist stuff and when others even hint at it they point no act mad . But it's only because they made they can't say offensive shit themselves

I think the issue is most people would say that but they would just say the things that offend them isn't humor. But no one would really say they are offended by humor
