Atsushi Onita is reviving a cult favorite.

Onita held a press conference on Thursday to announce the launch of Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling Explosion, a new wrestling promotion that will borrow some of its name and logo from the legendary FMW company that Onita founded in 1989. Onita will serve as a figurehead for the company, while Hidetaka Kajiki will serve as company president.

"I have revived FMW," Onita said. "The meaning of E is explosion. It is an explosion... I decided to create an organization specializing in barbed wire explosion with President Kajiki."

Onita said that there are plans to broadcast FMWE events live, but offered no specifics as to a potential streaming platform or partner.

"We are launching this promotion to broadcast our matches live, worldwide, Onita said. "Live streaming has become a major trend since COVID-19."

He went on to cite AEW's recent exploding barbed wire death match as the catalyst for this revival.

"The reason is that the first explosion death match was done at FMW. When I went to America, many people asked me to have my original explosion match in America. Then I dreamed of making it happen not only in the United States, but all over the world."

The new FMWE will hold its first show on July 4 in Yokohama at the Tsurumi Fruit and Vegetable Market. Onita cited July 4 as significant due to it being Independence Day in the United States.

"Action, action action. Let's do everything," said Onita.

Great to hear. FMW was the place I would see Hayabusa and all the crazy stuff he was doing many years ago and if Onita and Company can get that style of Wrestler with Pure Wrestling they'll do great in Japan.

Possibly, I think there's been movies about it recently and I read a Black Widow comic run a couple of years ago even where she was stopping one. So I feel like it's an "in" concept in fiction

Yeah, there have been plenty of movies and even books based on that concept and such so. I am just impressed it is normal weapons and some insane ones like FMW was/is known for.

Few More updates.

Onita has revealed the Hell Deathmatch, which is like the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatches, but now a barbed wire current blasting table will be added as well.

Also, the main event has been put into place as it will be the team of Onita, Ricky Fuji and Minoru Fujita taking on Abdullah Kobayashi, Yuuko Miyamoto, and Onryo, who runs and owns 666, in said Hell Deathmatch.

Onita has talked about running a few shows in The States because American Deathmatch fans have been disappointed with CZW's 2017 "explosion match", which was bad, and the recent match with Moxley vs Omega exploding match, which was laughable and memed to hell.

Onita said that he was inspired by AEW to relaunch FMW after seeing the reaction of Kenny's and Jon's match, both before and after. So that means I have to give credit to AEW for something.

He also wished that more women were involved in Deathmatches and that he would more than help to have a Women's Deathmatch to headline a show, and if you know old FMW it gave the world some of the best Joshis wrestlers to date.

A second show has been announced called BURNOUT and is set for August 15 of this year.
