I like independent comics a lot as well... stuff from Image and Dynamite and Vertigo... stuff like American Vampire, Severed, and several other cool and creepy series. The writing is superb and the art is second to none and the writers and artists are the ones reaping most of the benefits. I think it's pretty cool.

So to add to my previous post @Just Kevin - The series I have collected over the years include the 90s TMNT ones published by the Archie guys I think, Gen13 by Image, quite a few series from the publisher Crossgen, Johnny the homicidal maniac, I got the crow comic, X-treme X-men for awhile, the wolverine origins series, and I have had my subscription for quite a few years. I basically have all the Cable and X-Force comics that ran through the Mutant Messiah period where Hope Summers was born and grew up under Cable's care (let me know if I've lost you haha).

I have lots of random stuff too. Like back when the TMNT first got famous some guys tried to come up with a similar concept called "Rockin Rollin Miner Ants". Still got that I think. The guys came to my school when I was pretty young and an issue they were selling or giving out, I can't remember. I have this comic called "Wolverbroad" which is basically a rated R version of a female Wolverine spoof. Probably worthless, but I just held on to whatever I got over the years. There was a local comic shop I used to hang out at in my early teens and play games like Magic and Warhammer 40K. I got a lot of stuff from that place, but it closed down before I even graduated high school. Not much demand for comic stores in the middle of nowhere Maine I guess.

Some of the older Wolverine: Origins comics are worth $15 - $20 a piece because of Deadpool appearances... Wolverine vs Deadpool always draws... Wolverbroad sounds interesting, I might try and find that lol

I'm not a huge comic guy but I really dug the Knightfall arc and some Deadpool stuff (Deadpool kills the marvel universe was something I read a few weeks ago)

Knightfall was one of the best story arcs in Batman for sure.. along with Year One and Death in the Family. You can never go wrong with Deadpool, almost every comic I've ever read has been entertaining... one of the best characters in Marvel history.

It started with Donald Duck comics for me (Very big over here in Sweden. Like stupidly big).

My dad started subscribing to them when I was one and read them to me. And then we just kept going. I have like 18 years worth of Donald Duck comics at my dads place.

At age 8-9 I started subscribing to Spider-Man and X-Men as well. And did so until the age of 16. Should also be at my dads.

At home I have the Ultimate Spider-Man first volume on paperback and DC's Infinite Crisis event in paperback.

I had Invincible 1-70 in digital format on my old laptop.

Those Disney comics will definitely be worth something down the road as long as you take care of them.. some of the Disney stuff from the 50s and 60s commands hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. Some of your Spider-Man books could be worth money as well. If you ever have the time go and check out what issues you have... if you have Amazing Spider-Man #s 290- around 310 they are worth a good bit of money.. that was the Todd McFarlane run in Spidey and was extremely popular.. it was when Venom was born.

I wish DC had a bigger comic book presence over here. Would have loved to more easily get a hold of some Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Flash comics when younger.

As a kid I dreamed about working in comics. I'm a pretty decent guy with a pencil and a decent writer apparently.

Did you ever try to sketch up some stuff and send it in to Marvel or DC? or any of the smaller publishers that are around now?.. I wouldn't give up on that if you have that talent... it is pretty rare.

Dunno if my artistic abilities are good enough for super hero comics. At least when it comes to creating a sense of momentum and movement.
I'd probably pull off a good strip comic. If I had the time and such I'd attempt a webcomic I guess.

Super Hero comics are still popular but what is becoming even more popular now is the art style of Aww Yeah Comics...

Does that look like something you could do? Get an original story together... with art similar to this and you could have a hit on your hands. Comics books offer such a wide range now it is really crazy.

I could pull that out of my belly button.

I read a ton of webcomics daily as well. When I stopped reading and collecting paper I moved onto the web.

I read the following
PVP
Penny Arcade
Girls with slingshots
Sheldon (Great)
Menagé a 3
Eerie Cuties
Magic Chicks
Dangerously Chloe
Manly Guys doing Manly Things
Botched Spot & Over like Olaf

I got in to comics when I was 8, which is the same time I started to collect Marvel cards. Still have everything, actually. Mostly X-Men and Batman, but, I do have some GI Joe, Spider-Man and other random shit.

Sadly, I don't know exactly what age I got into comics. I just remember my older brother and I getting into them, and since money was tight we'd get a few comics here and there as we were growing up and sometimes share / read each others'. When I was younger I'd say Fantastic Four was one of my big-time favorites, and I loved Thing (one more reason for me to be a fan of Punk, I'm sure). So I read a bunch of assorted Fantastic Four comics. We never got any by mail, that I can recall, and there weren't any comic shops close to us. Had to drive an hour or more to get to one. So we mostly just got what we could whenever we were able to get some, which meant often missing issues between times, etc. But we had fun and loved reading them, even if we couldn't do "serious collecting." I can't even remember what all he might have stored away.

Others I dabbled in and read as I could were Vampirella, The Coven, Avengelyne, Danger Girl, Divine Right and even Pakkins' Land: Quest for Kings. I also have some of the Wizard 1/2 issues back when they were doing that -- Avengelyne, Witchblade / Tomb Raider and Divine Right. I was also always a fan of variant covers, so I have Dynamic Force exclusive covers for Lady Pendragon #3 (convention sketch cover [HASHTAG]#880[/HASHTAG] / 2,000), Lady Pendragon #7 (chrome cover [HASHTAG]#1913[/HASHTAG] / 2,500) and The Coven #4 (alternate cover [HASHTAG]#1562[/HASHTAG] / 4,000). I also got into some Lady Death and have Vampirella / Lady Death #1 from 1999.

I also have some of the 2099 A.D. comics, Amazing Spider-Man [HASHTAG]#400[/HASHTAG] with the tombstone cover overlay, some #1 of Captain Marvel though I'm not sure which year, Sensational Spider-Man #0 with the blue webbing on one cover and the red webbing (1 of 3,000) on the other cover. Then following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, I have "A Moment of Silence" comic and the Amazing Spider-Man #36 with the black cover, the comic focused on the attacks that included such great inside pages as this:

Have a couple of preview issues such as Darkchylde and all, as well. Random comics I picked up and read off and on, but didn't get many of.

More recently, some of my favorites that aren't from the Big 2 include Locke and Key, Velvet, Revival and Chew. I'm also finally reading the first volume of Y: The Last Man (Unmanned).

I'm behind on my reading, but I also like / have trade paperbacks of the New 52 run of Wonder Woman, Catwoman and Batman, as well as Marvel Now's run of Hawkeye and Thor. I also read some Deadpool and Wolverine... Probably others, but those are the main ones that come to mind offhand. I have a big stack of "to read" comics, and keep right on adding to them, haha.

Here are a couple of crappy photos of the Captain Marvel issue and Spider-Man [HASHTAG]#400[/HASHTAG]:

I gots some of those too! I was such a pervy little kid (as opposed to now, I know).

One thing I always LOVED about comics is when you get that one artist whose work on a cover or in the issue just blows you away. The last time this happened for me was during the earliest incarnation of the new X-Force team (when X-23 was partr of the team). So many cool images. Stuff I wouldn't mind getting tattoed on my body lol. But on the flipside, there are sometimes artists they get working on the issues that I look at and go WTF? The first one that comes to mind was a good length of issues in the newer Cable series that ran concurrently with the X-Force comics. YOu'd think I would take notice of the artist's names when I see the ones I like, but no. I'm too lazy lol. I know J. Scott Campbell is pretty sweet, but everyone knows that, right?

Oh yeah, you've come soooo far since then, let me tell ya. ;) haha Looking back on it, it's a wonder my mom let me get a bunch of those. Then again, she's always been pretty cool about supporting our hobbies and interests.

Definitely understand what you mean on the art. I love it when I see comic covers and think, "I wouldn't mind just hanging that on my wall!" Sometimes before buying comics I'll flip through even to just see if the art style is something I can get into or not. While I focus on the story of course, if the art style isn't for me, it makes it hard for me to get into it. So if the art seems "meh" I usually don't get them unless I know in advance it's really worth the read.

Fun fact: Rocking my Jim Lee Batman cover T-shirt today. :win:

I love Fantastic Four as well.. but Spider-Man had my heart as a youngster.. I would walk down to the comic shop and throw 75 cents on the counter every month for the new book. Batman as well.

The Amazing Spider-Man #36, if it has a bar code in the lower right, is worth $60-80... if not it is $30-40 in NM-M condition.

Captain Marvel #1 that's pictured there is $3 in NM-M and it's from 1995

Amazing Spider-Man [HASHTAG]#400[/HASHTAG] - Death of Aunt May White Cover is, if it's die cut $8, if not die cut then $20-25 in NM-M condition

Happy to see people contributing to this thread... Keep 'em coming!

One of the thing you guys hit on that I'd like to discuss... who do you think draws your favorite or any particular super hero the best?

I'm going to do Spidey and Batman.. for Spidey I'd say old school would be John Romita, Jr... newer would be Todd MacFarlane. For Batman I'd go with Jim Lee, Frank Miller, and for the newer stuff Tony Daniel.
