Although he was on the losing end throughout the majoraty of his main event fight at UFC on Fox 12 against Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown certainly let it known that he would be just as his nickname suggests... immortalized. A valiant effort in which Lawler acknowledged that Brown had just as much championship caliber as he did, UFC on Fox 12's main event most certainly lived up to the hype of being a fight of the year candidate.

But now that all the dust has settled and the smoke is clear, the question now pops up 'where does Matt Brown go from here?' Unfortunately at this very point - the sidelines. Brown sustained a broken hand in the fight along with a nasal fracture that'll keep him out of action for the rest of the year, and we're highly unlikely to see "The Immortal" back in the octagon anytime soon.

When he does come back, however, let's take a look at some interesting fights that Matt Brown could make his return against.

1.
Carlos Condit

Like Brown, Carlos Condit is currently on the sidelines nursing a rather horrifying injury we saw dealt in his last fight against Tyron Woodley. However, in order to heal up, Condit vs Brown would definitely be a barnburner for fans to watch. Oddly enough, Condit and Brown were originally scheduled to meet at UFC on Fox 9 last December before Brown was forced to pull out due to a back injury, and considering Condit will probably be healed up right around the same time that Matt Brown will be; Condit vs Brown could very well make the most sense to happen.

2.
Loser of Woodley vs DHK

The upcoming match between Tyron Woodley and Dong Hyun Kim has a lot riding on its shoulders, and with the winner more than likely making his way into the top 5 of the welterweight division it' safe to say that the loser could be given just as equal of opportunity depending on how the fight pans out. Tyron Woodley would be a good stylistic fight for Brown to take as Rory MacDonald exposed a lot of weaknesses in his game that would benefit Brown, and I'm pretty sure Brown is just as hungry to wash that DHK loss back at UFC 88 out of his mouth. If whoever wins this fight will skyrocket in the rankings, than whoever loses could very well provide a good opportunity for Brown to get.

3.
Hector Lombard

It's no secret that Hector Lombard wants to fight Matt Brown, he even took to twitter to call out Matt Brown following his win over Erik Silva unimpressed by The Immortal's performance and criticizing him for his wins over non top ranked competitors. Well, given the chance to face Lightning in the future, Brown would certainly get the chance to silence him and critics alike who criticized him throughout his seven fight win streak throughout the last couple of years. With a combined total of 31 knockouts between the two, it's nearly impossible to say that this one has no chance of being fight of the night.

4.
Demian Maia

Alright, I know Demian Maia hasn't done anything overly impressive in the welterweight division as of yet. But if anybody poises the most stylistic threat out of anybody on the list, it's him. Out of Matt Brown's 12 career losses, 9 of them have come by way of submission. And that's Demian Maia's biggest strength without a shadow of a doubt. Perhaps not the most exciting fight for Brown to take, but certainly if he could get a win over him. It would prove that he's definitely improving and sharpening up his weaknesses in hopes of soon enough getting a shot at the 170 pound gold.

5.
Kelvin Gastelum

Kelvin Gastelum is just cracking into the welterweight rankings, even though the biggest statement he made in his last fight was on the weigh scale. But putting him up against Matt Brown would definitely the toughest test to date for The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner. Not to mention the win would be just as beneficial to Brown who would prove with this win that he's still capable of keeping up with young and up coming welterweights. Stylistically, Brown could fall into Gastelum's trap however unless he does some sharpening up on his takedown defence.

Condit is a great fight and with him still being out for a bit and Brown being out for 6 months I think, they might be healthy at just the right time.

Condit makes for a good fight, so does Hector Lombard.

The only ones I wouldn't be too thrilled about are the last two. But it makes sense for him to go against those two over somebody like Jake Ellenberger who's lost to two top contenders in the division.
