This match not going ahead just makes perfect sense right now, surely?
They can't possibly have the match they've been building since the inception of the company (which is where Page becomes THE guy) at the exact time they're bringing Punk (and maybe Danielson) in. Those two are going to be the focus of attention and will massively overshadow and devalue what AEW are trying to do with Page.
AEW took the opportunity from him the best way they could (the elimination match ended up with Page in a 3 on 1 with the Bucks and Omega and he put up a fight - he was outnumbered by his biggest rivals but went down swinging) so they didn't damage him at all there, imo at least.
Christian took the number one contenders spot this past week so, to me, that gives them an easy main event for a PPV where the main event really doesn't matter. They have Christian Cage vs Omega, Christian main events and is a credible challenger, Omega gets another win to keep his title reign going and none of that matters because CM Punk. And maybe Danielson.
Frankly I wouldn't even have Page wrestling on the PPV now, his story would continue better with him drinking sadly in a bar watching the show on TV. AND more than that, I think this is a good thing because Kenny shouldn't be losing the belt here and Page losing the match would devalue him.
I don't know what they were planning before Punk became a thing but to me taking Page out of the title match for this show is good for Page and AEWs main event picture as a whole right now.
