^^Lol, that's a bit extreme now ain't it
I gotta join the LHW bandwagon I guess. The competition is so fierce and before Machida came along, the last three champions (Rampage, Forrest and Rashad) made one title defense between them, that in itself shows how many people are in the LHW division who are capable of holding the belt.
I'm hoping Machida makes a few title defenses before losing the belt because I don't want to see it turn into the MW and WW divisions where there is one guy on top of the division who is practically untouchable because although it does good for the guys who are the champs, it craps on the rest of the division if you ask me.
As for the division right now and not looking into the future, I think it is in a pretty stable division. I can't really say Chuck Liddell is a big loss because all respect to the guy and what he did for MMA but the real Chuck Liddell was gone from UFC for about a year now if you want my honest opinion and life goes on.
But all that aside there is a new champ in the division and he has a competitive challenger and although Machida will probably come out as the winner, chances are it will probably be a good fight if Rua trains hard enough. Then we got Rampage Vs Rashad, another match which will probably be one to remember and then to add to that we have Anderson Silva Vs Forrest Griffin which is two of my favourite fighters gonig against each other and will be another potential classic. So to summarise the LHW division is still alive and kicking, with or without Chuck Liddell.
As for the gap left by Liddell, a few names come to mind on who will fill that gap, Ryan Bader and Rich Franklin (I'm hoping it's Bader). So you may be thinking am I mad by saying Bader will fill the gap left by Liddell and maybe I am mad but I think if bader impresses in a couple more fights, he'll get a fight agaisnt someone like Franklin and then it's sink or swim for Mr Bader. Franklin I hear is coming back to LHW and will probably fill the gap as long as he keps winning.
The other two names are Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill. The two are rumoured to fight at UFC 102 so whoever wins that will probably get signed into a fairly big fight but I can't see either of the two really rising to the occasion if they were given the big fight so it'll be pretty unlikely if you see these two headlining events anytime soon imo.
Lol, sorry if I bored any of you with my "essay" about why I like the LHW division and what the future holds for it.
