Three years ago, WCW ignited a war that would forever change the course in professional wrestling with it's debut of Monday Night Nitro, going head to head with WWF's Monday Night RAW, and on top of that? Adding Hulk Hogan to the mix. Time has passed, and the war wages on. At the end of 1997, WWF would once again feel the wrath of Ted Turner's wealth, as Bret Hart would jump ship after being disgruntled with the state of the WWF, Vince McMahon, and Shawn Michaels. Now with two of wrestling's biggest superstars of two different generations, WCW has the advantage and star power to combat the WWF. Bret Hart is very fresh to the company, but an impending feud with Hulk Hogan, the leader of the nWo, is on the minds of every wrestling fan around the world.

Meanwhile, the World Heavyweight Championship is in limbo. At Starrcade,
Sting defeated Hulk Hogan, but shenanigans have ensued. The count, made by once upon a time, rogue referee Nick Patrick, has been put into question, with Hogan, Sting, and WCW executive J.J. Dillion confused on what really happened. Rumors have circulated around WCW HQ of stripping Sting of the title, while Hogan demands he gets another shake at the title.

Speaking of the nWo, two of the stable's biggest, literally, biggest members,
The Giant and Kevin Nash, have been locking horns. Nash no-showed his match with The Giant at Starrcade the previous month, citing a leg injury as the reasoning. The Giant is not having it and looks to show who's the dominant Giant of WCW, with or without the nWo's approval.

Our story begins on
January 1st, 1998, where the first episode of WCW Thunder begins. Other feuds going on at the time include Raven and his flock going after the calculating Chris Benoit, while Curt Hennig is still reeling after Diamond Dallas Page's victory over him for the United States Championship at Starrcade. The Steiner Brothers are looking to sink their teeth into new competition as they rule the tag team division, while Ultimo Dragon and his Cruiserweight Championship are on their toes as the Cruiserweight Division is rapidly changing each week. Stay tuned for the first episode of Thunder and what unfolds in 1998!

This is a secondary project of mine. ECW: RFTA is set to debut another episode soon, so don't worry. Results posted here will be much shorter and in summary form, and likely quicker then what I post in the regular BTB section. Oh, and predictions, those are schweet and will be a thing. I'll be posting the roster, titles, and etc. likely tomorrow or the following day. Who were some of your favorites of the time? Who should get the boot? Will El Dandy take over the nWo? So much and more!

Tony Schiavone & Bobby Heenan spear the intro of the very first episode of Thunder with your typical New Years jargon, excited for what the new year holds in store for World Championship Wrestling. They run down the list of tonight's matches, including a blockbuster main event as DDP takes on Kevin Nash in a United States Championship Match. Nash is looking to take revenge on DDP after DDP took the US Title away from the nWo's Curt Hennig. But up first, tag team action!

Ghosts & Ghouls (Wrath & Mortis) defeat Silver King & LA Parka vs Pinfall

James Vandenburg walk out the mysterious and destructive team of Wrath and Mortis, who take it to King and Parka early on. Silver King is able to slip over a back body drop from Wrath into a pin, but it doesn't go so well. After some more underdog like manuvers from King and Parka, the power of Ghosts & Ghouls is too much, as they hit a double powerbomb on King and pin him for the three.

A video package plays highlighting the controversial finish of Starrcade as Sting wins the WCW Title, but thanks to Nick Patrick's shoddy count and Hogan's cries, the title result is up for debate. Tonight, we hear from former world champion Hogan, and current champion Sting about their sides of what went down, and future of the WCW World Title.

Chris Jericho defeats Chavo Guerrero Jr. via Submission

In a match with serious implications towards the Cruiserweight Championship, Jericho and Guerrero put on a wonderful technical match that is highlighted by a springboard dropkick to Guerrero to the outside, and a failed dive attempt to the outside. Chavo brought on the pain as he suplexed Jericho on the floor, before tossing him in and going for a frog splash. It gets reversed as Jericho rolls out of the way and goes for a roll up, but Chavo kicks out, only for his leg to get caught and pulled into the Liontamer! Guerrero taps out quickly. The fans are in awe and appauled both men, but Jericho thinks it's only for him. Chavo gets up tired and tries to offer a handshake to Jericho, but the young Canadian is so full of himself he only pays attention to the fans. Chavo is annoyed and rolls out of the ring as Jericho continues to celebrate.

Raven sits by his lonesome in an empty parking lot of a convienent store. A couple of guys call him a bum as his back is against an ATM, with the remains of the winter softly falling on the ground and on him. He collects some snow in his hand and watches it melt as he speaks about Benoit, about the pain he's inflicted on him, and that Benoit could be more then just a Horsemen. He says Benoit was at first, a distraction towards his goal of becoming a champion in WCW, but now? Benoit is a man in desperate need of a savior, and that he's willing to be that savior.

A satellite confrontation begins, but only Hulk Hogan is present. Bobby Heenan tries to ask where Sting is, but Hogan without a moment begins to rant and berate the Stinger. He says that Sting's a coward, a guy who dresses up in face paint to hide his fear, he didn't even show up! Tony Schiavone tries to say Sting is a man of few words, but Hogan tells him to zip it and to face the facts just like Sting should, Hogan should be world champ! Hogan says this Monday Night on Nitro, he's gonna call Sting out, and that he has two choices, he either lays down the WCW World Title at Hogan's feet, or he'll get pulverized and be forced to forfeit the title! Hogan storms out of his chair pissed.

The former United States Champion, Curt Hennig, sporting an nWo shirt, is sitting backstage and watching a replay of his match with Diamond Dallas Page. He admits, DDP got the better of him, but that even Babe Ruth had a bad night here and there. It doesn't change the fact that to Hennig, he is a champion, regardless of the subtitle. With that being said, he's fine with Kevin Nash being the one to take down Dallas tonight, but as for Hennig? He's got his eyes on another prize... the Television Championship. He throws down the gauntlet, and says he wants to put Booker T to the test this Monday Night. If he's really a champion worth his weight, then he'll accept. It's an obvious ploy, but a call-out that can't be ignored.

Diamond Dallas Page defeats Kevin Nash by DQ

In an exciting bout, DDP was able to get an advantage early by going after the legs of Nash, but a kitchen sink by the big man took him down, leading to a lot of rest holds and Nash offense that upset the crowd. An irish whip attempt by Nash, DDP is sent towards the ropes, but he ducks a big boot and comes back with a clothesline that takes Nash down! DDP wails on Nash with lefts and rights, before Nash hits him with an elbow to the head that knocks him down. Nash tries to elbow drop him from a standing position, but Dallas rolls out of the way and under the bottom rope. As Nash gets up, he's met with a flying crossbody! A close three but Nash kicks out! DDP is wobbly and tries to get up, but as he turns to the ramp, he sees THE GIANT marching down the ramp! Diamond isn't sure what to do, but he says screw it and heads on the apron! He tries for a diving axehandle, but The Giant catches him with a bearhug and rams him back first into the apron! The ref calls it! The Giant almost snarls and tosses Diamond Dallas Page in the ring, and Nash is up, but shocked. He looks at The Giant who stands on the apron, telling Nash to "finish it". The crowd boo, as it seems the two giants have united together over DDP. Nash picks up Dallas, JACKKNIFE POWERBOMB TO THE CHAMPION! The Giant smiles and congratulates Nash who offers up a two sweet, laughing, and even apologizing for no-showing The Giant at Starrcade. The Giant gives Nash the Too Sweet! Nash rolls out of the ring and collects the US Title before going back in and raising it over his head as a hurt DDP watches. The Giant looks at DDP... then Nash... THEN GRABS NASH BY THE THROAT! It was a ploy just to get Nash to stay in the ring! CHOKESLAM TO NASH! The Giant stands atop Nash as the dominant big man, and the first ever episode of WCW Thunder concludes with a shot of him being praised by the crowd! Is The Giant offically out of the nWo?! Stay tuned for more!

This past Friday, one day after the debut of Thunder, both Wrath and Silver King suffered injuries. Wrath, one half of Ghosts & Ghouls, is said to be out for over a month thanks to a damaged hand, while Silver King is out for two months because of an Ankle Injury. While Silver King is still finding his way in the rankings of WCW, Wrath and Mortis seemed poised for an opportunity at The Steiner Brothers' tag team titles.

Excited for WCW? Want to purchase more shirts, DVDs, and pay-per-views? Do it with style now with new WCW Mastercard designs! Featuring members of the nWo, the Flock, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, and coming soon, Bret Hart!

Eddie Guerrero defeats Marty Janetty via pinfall
In a decent bout, Eddie Guerrero and Marty Janetty had an exchange of holds before Eddie out wrestled the former Rocker. Bret Hart sits down with Gene Okerlund one on one and discusses what transpired at Starrcade between Sting & Hogan. Both men mutually agree that Hogan has a point, but laments that if the shoe was on the other foot, Hogan wouldn't be upset then. Bret shrugs, and laments that he needs to stop worrying about Sting, because The Hitman isn't here to pick sides, he's here to compete, and that sooner or later, Bret Hart's name will beside by side with whoever has that title sooner then later.

Booker T defeats Saturn by pinfall, retaining his title
Booker T comes into this match wanting to retain his title and the challenge Curt Hennig laid out on Thunder. He faces Flock member Saturn, who in the early goings takes it to Booker with brawling, including dropping him face first on the guard rail. He throws Booker in and goes for a top rope dive, but Booker connects with an axe kick instead. He takes it to Saturn and hits a spinebuster, only getting a two. Booker looked to pick him up for a suplex, but Saturn slipped behind and shoves Booker, almost hitting the ref. The ref covers up his eyes in defense, missing Saturn low blow Booker. He tries to get the referee too look as he covers Booker, but the referee only sees a two count. Saturn's mad and tries to end it with a DDT, but Booker reverses it hooking the arm for the Book End! Booker rolls out of the ring and onto the apron, before coming off the top with THE HARLEM HANGOVER! Booker T retains his Television Championship and keeps his appointment this Monday with Curt Hennig! Booker stands victorious as The Flock's challenger rolls out of the ring knocked out.

JANUARY 5TH, 1998
LIVE! ON TNT FROM THE LAKELAND CIVIC CENTER IN LAKELAND, FLORIDA, USA!

Hl6Ca0H.jpg

WCW kicks off Nitro with the nWo, as Hollywood Hogan has brought "The Macho Man" Randy Savage out to the ring with him as back up. Hogan dishes out some trash talk towards Sting, complaining that it should be him with the WCW World Title. The Nitro after Starrcade was a fluke, dude, and everyone and their mother knows Hogan wasn't ready for that rematch, as he was working hurt! He demands another shot at the title, which the crowd boo. Macho Man gets the stick, and the once Mega Powers fist bump, as Macho says he's sick of Sting, that he's nothin', and that the nWo is gonna have the World Title one way or another, and that tonight, he should do the right thing and lay the title down.

jtkN3lY.jpg

Suddenly, Bret Hart's music hits, and The Hitman sticks his two cents in. He says that he knows a sneak attack when he sees one, and that Hogan had his turn at the gold, now it's Bret's. He doesn't want Sting to be beaten in two by the time Bret gets to him. Hogan and Bret's shades reflect off of one another as the two men stare each other down. Two generations are colliding here, but Macho tells Bret to shove it, and that he'll get screwed over in a second by Sting, just like how he got screwed over on the other side. An "oooo" breaks out from the crowd as Bret shoots him a sly grin.

Hogan takes the stick and says if Sting isn't gonna come out, like the coward he is... then the nWo might as well give out a beating in the mean time. Hogan takes off the weight belt as Macho tightens his bandana, but Bret Hart stands against the turnbuckle with his hands in his pockets, looking cool as a breeze... AS STING EMERGES FROM THE RAFTERS!

5O7itja.jpg

The WCW World Title is around his waist, and the baseball bat is in his hand! Macho Man shifts his head over first and sees Sting! He runs at him but gets popped in the head with it! Hogan tries to save his partner, but Sting holds the baseball bat to his throat like a sword! Sting undoes the title, looks at it, then at Hogan, before holding it high in the air to say that it's his! Hogan looks pissed and turns around, shooting Bret Hart one more look before the Macho Man joins Hogan, still ranting at Sting and Hart! As Sting holds the bat, he looks at Bret Hart, and the two men have a hidden tension between them, as the screen goes to commercial.

#1 Contender's Match - Cruiserweight Championship
DRAW

In what many consider a very good example of what the cruiserweights are all about, Chris Jericho is tasked with facing another Guerrero. The action is lightning quick and full of twists and turns, including a crossbody from Guerrero that nearly gets the three. Jericho's Lionsault almost connected, but Guerrero got the knees up and spiked Jericho with a Tornado DDT. Guerrero tried going for a Frog Splash, but Jericho leaped at the top rope to knock him crotch first into the post. Scary situation as Jericho and Guerrero are up top, but Guerrero makes a risky move shoving Guerrero to land feet first on the floor. Jericho tried staying up but fell, looking as if he tweaked his knee. Guerrero looked around but dove on Jericho with a front flip hilo off the top! It was a nasty landing, and neither man could get in the ring before the ten count! Angry, Guerrero continued his assault by stomping on Jericho and connecting with punches, but the cocky Jericho fought back, leading to security to break them up. This matter of who the number one contender has to be answered soon! During the match, Bobby Heenan mentions tonight's main event, as WCW United States Champion DDP looks to take on The Giant in non-title action!

is upset that Wrath is injured, sure, but where there's misfortune, there's opportunity. Vandenberg says that opportunity has just been picked up, and baby, it's a two for one special. Not only does Mortis have the chance now to dominate the singles competition, but a new signing, a man that matches Mortis' deadly gaze, has just been inked in proverbial blood. Booker T (c) defeats Curt Hennig via pinfall, retaining his title

After losing the United States Championship a few weeks ago, Curt Hennig looks to feel the weight of gold once again as he takes on Booker T, who just defended his title against Perry Saturn just a few nights ago on Saturday Night. Booker T's a fighting champion and the two men talk some trash, but the competitive respect is still there. A side-slam by Hennig and a follow up back breaker in this match shows Hennig was looking to hurt the back of Booker. Booker struggled to lift Hennig up for a Book End, leaving Hennig to attempt his signature fisherman suplex, but Booker turned it into a counter pin! Hennig is still in this and looks for a clothesline, but a back elbow followed by a leg drop nearly does the challenger in. He tried his best to continue to the pressure, but Hennig trips him with a chop block and goes up top! DIVING KNEE DROP ON THE BACK OF BOOKER! Booker looks like he's in so much pain! Hennig calls for the end and goes for the suplex agains, but Booker fights back with punches before irish whipping him into the corner. Hennig slips over the top rope to get on the apron, climbs up top, and looks for a double axe handle, but Booker hits him mid-air with a side kick! Booker's feeling it, and despite the bad back, picks up Hennig and drops him with THE BOOK END! Booker T succesfully defends his TV Title and celebrates, leaving the ring and having his hand raised in the air. Meanwhile, Curt rolls over to the apron, putting down the straps of his apron and looking defeated. The former glory and fame he once had a few years ago has been sapped away. What's next for Hennig?

As we come back from commercial break, those tuning into Nitro see Chris Benoit in wrestling gear pacing around the ring. He's already sweating, seeming to be ready for a potential fight. "Raven, I'm sick of you, I'm sick of your flock, and I'm sick of you getting in my way. I'm not fighting you for the whole year, I'm getting to the bottom of this now! I heard what you said, and the answer is NO! I'm not joining you, I'm ENDING you. I want you freaks out of my life NOW! So get out here and let's finish this!"

AUVpBnE.jpg
QaqvaPv.jpg

It doesn't take long before Raven comes out, finishing the wrap on his fist as Perry Saturn, the man who beat Benoit at Starrcade, follows behind his leader. Benoit looks ready to do battle, but Raven tells Saturn to stay back, and Raven enters the ring with a microphone of his own. He goes on for a bit, explaining to Benoit that there's no way both men can just co-exist. There's no way for Benoit to just go about his business without Raven being an important piece of the puzzle that is WCW. Benoit tosses the microphone and his jacket, he shouts at Raven to fight him, but Raven just stares blankly.

"I want something, and you want something. You already know how this goes, Chris. If you think you can get rid of me, do what you claim you always do and prove it. But you need to put something on the line. J.J. Dillion and his match making comittee be damned, because at Souled Out, if you want me out so bad, you'll have to make me say the words "I Quit"."

Benoit is practically foaming at the mouth, "YOU'RE ON RAVEN!", he screams, but as soon as Raven shoves him, it's game on! Raven and Benoit start punching one another! It's chaotic as Saturn tries to get in the ring, but Benoit headbutts Raven to knock him down! He dodges a punch from Saturn and starts punching him in the corner! Saturn pushes him back and goes for a clothesline, but Benoit ducks it and hits a german suplex! He turns around though and his efforts are thrwated as Raven blindsides him with a steel chair! The smack is heard through the arena as Raven and Saturn stomp Benoit out! Lodi, Kidman, and Scotty Riggs from The Flock rush out and continue an onslaught on Benoit! He's getting stomped out and Raven watches from the seat he's taken on the chair. Lodi and Riggs pick up Benoit and irish whip him as Raven drop toes him head first into the chair! Benoit's bleeding, and Raven stands over his body, holding the chair in his hand as he hits his signature pose. It's a grave site as The Flock stands tall!

Bill Goldberg (20-0) defeats Konnan

Bill Goldberg's dominant streak looks to continue as he faces nWo's Konnan, it's Goldberg's 20th match and the fans are wondering if Konnan can be the man to end it. Konnan has the speed advantage and tries to hit some kicks on Goldberg, including a springboard dropkick, but it only gets Goldberg to a knee! Konnan runs the ropes, but Goldberg sees an opportunity and SPEARS~! Konnan! He follows it up with the Jackhammer and covers Konnan. Goldberg's first strike against the nWo is succesful, but he doesn't seem to care much, exiting the ring with little worry of the fans opinion. During the match, we get confirmation that since both Chris Jericho & Eddie Guerrero put on a tough match, both will be inserted into the Cruiserweight Championship Match at Souled Out! It's a triple threat now!

THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT HAS BEEN PAID FOR BY THE NEW WORLD ORDER

In a string of interviews from Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, they discuss the feud between Hogan and Sting, promising that they'll be on top of WCW again, but Hall brings up the business between Nash and The Giant. Nash says The Giant can suck it, and that if it was his decision, he wouldn't be in the nWo anymore. Hall shrugs, saying the kid's got some anger, but it's gonna cost him if he doesn't back down. Nash cuts in, saying the nWo's problems are all going to be put aside when it comes to showing WCW who really runs the show.

Backstage, we see Jim Neidhart reunite and catch up with his former tag partner, Bret Hart. Neidhart tells Bret that the nWo are no joke, to which Bret replies, saying he hope they aren't. Jim says he's just telling Bret to be careful, and that if he ever needs some backup, he knows who to call. Bret smiles, and the feel good moment ends with a handshake, right before our main event.

The Giant defeats WCW United States Champion Diamond Dallas Page
In a non-title match, DDP struggled to get the big man down through most of the match. DDP was thrown around without mercy, but he'd comeback after taking The Giant down with a dropkick to the knee, followed by a big DDT. He'd attempt the Diamond Cutter, but The Giant would reverse it, holding Dallas by the throat and hitting him with the chokeslam! Out from the back however comes Kevin Nash, sporting an nWo shirt and holding another one in his hand. He walks up to the apron as The Giant stares daggers into him. Dallas comes from behind with a chopblock though and punches Nash in the face! Nash hangs on as Dallas turns around, as The Giant is about to eat a Diamond Cutter! Nash throws the shirt over into the ring which the referee, who's already angry, tries to toss out, leaving him to miss out on The Giant shoving Dallas face first into a big right hand! The Giant hits another chokeslam and gets the three!

Nash smiles and walks into the ring as he rips the shirt away from the referee and offers the shirt, AND the United States Championship to The Giant as a peace offering. The Giant takes both objects and looks at them, then at Nash, before tossing the United States Title back at DDP's body. The Giant puts the shirt in his hands... AND RIPS IT! The Giant is offically leaving the nWo! Nash calls him every nasty name in the book, but DDP spins him around! DIAMOND CUTTER! DDP has laid out Nash, and he looks at The Giant with fire in his heart! But The Giant looks down at Nash, then at DDP, who he laid out twice now, and points at the US Title. We end Nitro with what could be a blockbuster rematch in the coming future, but what does this mean for the nWo?!

JANUARY 8TH, 1998
LIVE! ON TNT, FROM DAYTONA, FLORIDA

WCW Thunder is live once again on Turner Television, and you're in for another exciting night of wrestling as WCW heads to Souled Out! With just ten days left, the WCW stars are fighting tooth and nail for a chance to make it on the card. The commentary team runs down tonight's action, but mentions that tonight, live and in black and white, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan is set to appear tonight, and the leader of the nWo is in action!

Eddie Guerrero defeats Juventud Guerrea via pinfall
Leading up to his big triple threat match at Souled Out, Guerrero took out a lot of his frustration out on Juventud, throwing him head first into the steel post at one point. Juventud's greatest hits in this match was a hurricanrana, a dropkick, and a suplex attempt, but a stiff clothesline and a brainbuster would spell the end of Juvi, and possibly, Chris Jericho and Ultimo Dragon at Souled Out.

As Thunder returns from commercial, the WCW Tag Team Champions, The Steiner Brothers, are walking towards the curtain, but are stopped by James Vandenburg, who wishes the both of them luck tonight, as they'll be needing it once they cross Mortis' path. Rick takes over and bad mouths James, telling him they're not worried about some masked freak. He says if they want the tag titles so badly, if they want to keep bad mouthing the Steiners, then go find Mortis a partner, and they'll whoop them badly. The Brothers continue on, and Vandenburg simply smiles an evil grin.

The Steiner Brothers defeat Public Enemy via pinfall
In tag team action, both Rocco and Johnny take the offensive to Rick most of the match, keeping him from tagging in Scott. There's an attempt at a double suplex, but Rick fights them off and hits a double DDT, hot tagging Scott in to clean up house. He clotheslines Grunge out of the ring before both of the Steiner Brothers' hit a Doomsday Bulldog on Rocco, pinning him for the three count.

After the match however, Mortis, the man Vandenburg had just warned the Steiners about, slips into the ring with a chair, cracking Scott over the head with it! The thud is loud, but Rick tackles him and tries to keep him down! The Public Enemy slowly get up and pull Mortis off... only to attack Rick themselves! The crowd aren't happy and they're showing it, as the Public Enemy grab a set of tables and look to finish them Rick off. Scott tries to come back into the ring, but as he's on the apron, Mortis hits him with a superkick to knock him out, his body fumbling in the ring. He helps set up two tables side by side, as The Public Enemy put the Steiner's through the tables! Vandenburg laughs maniacally, almost as if this was planned. Mortis' rolls out of the ring to join James, while The Public Enemy follows. This strange alliance is one to look out for.

At the WCW Power Plant in Atlanta, Georgia, we see Chris Benoit who's head is heavily bandaged scraping around with some of the younger talent, but his velocity and aggression is felt with each punch and chop he delivers. It isn't until he hits a German Suplex that things go for a scary turn. Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, the known trainer of the plant, wants to test his fighting spirit. He and Benoit talk some trash, with the Sarge mentioning how Benoit couldn't even beat on some losers in street clothes, referring to Raven's Flock. Benoit tries to ignore it as they're in a lock up, but he can't, and he practically screams as he begins delivering punches, before hitting a German Suplex and locking Parker in the Crossface. Six students run into the ring, and try to pull Benoit off, but it's no use, not until Parker is completely knocked out. Benoit stands over him and his eyes are strained, while his mouth is practically foaming. This is the effect of Raven's mind games, and Benoit knows it.

DDP, the proclaimed "People's Champion", appears after the last match up with an agitated look, coming up to the commentary booth and taking the mic on the table to speak to the people, hoisting the United States Championship in his hand.

DDP: "What people seem to forget about me is this, I've always had the odds stacked against me. Ever since I first broke into WCW, I was always told I wasn't gonna amount to much. Sucks to hear, right? But I'll tell you what, it feels damn good to prove those doubters wrong. It just so happens that over the last few weeks, my latest doubters are two giant, nasty, mean sons of bitches. Kev, you and I go way back, and while over the last seven years you've proven yourself to be a world champion, a guy who's been at the top of the mountain, you've also proven to be a royal pain in my ass, just like The Giant. You two chose to make me out to be an example... y'know what? Screw that, and screw the both of you. I took a page outta your book Kev... yea, I COMPLAINED, I whined, straight to J.J. Dillion... I said Jay, don't give me Kevin Nash... don't give me The Giant... give me BOTH of those suckers at Souled Out", hell, I even tossed my title in the mix to keep things fresh."

Dallas takes the title and steps up on the table, stepping all over The Brain's notes, before bending down and putting the title closer to the camera.

DDP: "I don't care if The Giant's turned his big ass on the nWo or not, to me, the both of you deserve a Diamond Cutter! Giant, I get it, I get you want the gold, I get you want to dominate... but you chose the wrong man to take your anger out on. I may not be your size, but I sure as hell am not going to be turned into a victim. And there ain't no better place to do that then on your home turf at Souled Out. So I'm layin' down the challenge... not only are the two of you leaving Ohio without the US Belt, but you're both gonna be leaving with a ringing in your ear.... thanks to the BANG!"

Dallas lays the title on his shoulder, hits the self-high five, and leaps off the table shouting "BANG", before WCW goes to commercial.

The leader of the nWo, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, struts out with no world title, a suprisingly strange visual, but he's not bothered, seeming eager to once again get the title back. He enters the ring gets handed a microphone, much to his delight.

"Hollywood" Hogan: "Y'know what? I've tried being fair.,.. I've tried doing the right thing... and above all else, I've warned you, Sting. I warned you that the nWo still rules the world of professional wrestling, that we control what happens in this company, and I've warned you that nothing is going to stop us from doing what we want to do. So you know what dude? Enjoy holding onto MY title, because until J.J. Dillion and the rest of the WCW execs get a clue, I'm gonna make sure you rue the day you decided to mess with Hollywood Hogan. Now, as far as your new pal, Bret Hart-"

There's a thunderous roar of approval from the crowd, much to Hogan's displeasure.

"Hollywood" Hogan: "Bret Hart... The Hitman... people wanna say you're The Best there ever was? Brother, I chopped the tree down that made the money in your pocket right now. Without me, without what I did before I joined WCW dude, you were nothin' but another kid running around the ring while the men got ready to go to work. You're still that same kid, and let's face it, you've doomed yourself. If I stayed over there... you wouldn't even be in this business. I would've dropped my leg on you so hard you'd have to sooth it every day with Maple Syrup back in Canada!"

Stereotypes! Ever since losing the world title, Hogan's gone for the low hanging grape!

"Hollywood" Hogan: "So I'm gonna do you a favor and give you some advice... I know you're not back there tonight, and hey, I wouldn't wanna be near me either dude! But know this... you keep helpin' Sting, you keep pokin' your nose in MY business, and you won't HAVE a chance to ride off of my success ever again!"

A loud "BRET BRET BRET" chant breaks out, but Hogan's not having it. He's set to compete, and he's said his peace, dropping the mic... only for Jim Neidhart to walk out in wrestling gear aswell!

"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan takes on Jim Neidhart

The action starts off with a lock up and some basic wrestling, but hey, this is "Hollywood" Hogan we're talking about, so an eye rake leads to some brawling, some shoulder block attempts, and eventually, a clothesline by Neidhart. The big man keeps the offensive on Hogan, hitting him with some lefts and rights, before running the ropes and going for a Stinger Splash of his own! Hogan ducks out of it however and bodysams Neidhart. He picks up Neidhart again and hits a stun gun on him, before pressing his foot down on Neidhart's throat. The ref almost DQ's Hogan, but Hogan lets up, before dropping an' elbow right to Neidhart's neck. Hogan calls up Neidhart, and applies the Sleeper Hold! It's a tight vice, but Neidhart fights out and mounts a comeback, ending it off with a BIIIIIG fallaway slam! Neidhart looks like he's gonna end it, but hey, it's once again, a HOGAN match. Neidhart lifts Hogan up for the powerslam, but Hogan wiggles, tries to fight it, and accidentally kicks the ref straight into the head! Neidhart has to reposition him and tries to go forward, but when he turns around, he's met with a flying axe handle to the head!

IRpBH08.jpg

It's the Macho Man! Neidhart is at a disadvantage! Macho spins wildly and points at the top rope, looking to go up top. He descends up the ropes and throws up the index fingers, Macho Elbow from The Top! Neidhart is down and out! Hogan's laughing, getting up and points at the camera, RIGHT at Bret Hart, and mocks Hart, writing "N-W-O" IN THE AIR! HOGAN LEG DROP! It's over! The nWo stand tall... but wait, Hogan's not done... it's that damn spray can! He kicks Neidhart over and sprays nWo on his back! He and The Macho Man laugh maniacally! It's a poor day to be a WCW fan, and the last shot we get is that of Hogan and Macho Man standing side by side with momentum towards Souled Out.

Rating: 64%

The nWo has proven victorious, and Hogan looks to be on top of the world here on Thunder. What does this mean for Hogan? Will he once again face Sting for the world title? How will Bret Hart reply to the dirty tricked played on his former tag partner? All of this and much more to find out, stay tuned!

It's another week of sad news for WCW fans, as the mysterious "Rey Mysterio Jr." will be out of action for the forseeable future. Mysterio who's been impressing WCW officials, someone who is even in talks of being a potential challenger for the Cruiserweight Title, is currently rehabbing a nagging injury. Within due time he's sure to return.

There's my lackluster attempt at covering this up, below is what transpired. No Rey-Rey for a bit, which is fine by me, just means I'll show off other cruiserweights.

The nWo defeat Marty Janetty & Renegade (5:45)

In an otherwise short match, the pairing of Scott Norton & Masahiro Chono would dominate The Renegade & Marty Janetty. The Renegade would try to shoulder block Norton, but he'd eat a straight punch to the head and a Yakuza Kick from Chono. Janetty would bounce in the ring, only to be lifted up by Norton, as Chono came from the ropes with a Yakuza Kick to Janetty now, followed down with a sitout spinebuster for the one-two-three. WCW's tag team scene is heating up, and a tag title shot may be in Chono & Norton's future.

In the back, Booker T calls it plain as day; he's looking to be a fighting champion, but he needs a challenger for Souled Out. Thanks to the few shows off, he's been able to request a number contendership battle royal, happening this Monday Night on Nitro, and the winner gets a shot at the gold, SUCKA!

Time for Macho Man's spotlight in the nWo locker room. He goes over the tape of the "new" Sting, the silent Sting, the Sting that's supposedly able to put fear in the heart of any man... but a Macho Man? A Macho Man doesn't even know how to SPELL fear, let alone feel it. So while Hogan's dealing with getting his shot back, it's clear that someone else needs to finish off Sting and bring the world title back to the nWo. Hall, in the background, states that the Hulkster's even given Macho Man permission, to challenge Sting at Souled Out. Macho knows he'll do the right thing and keep the WCW Title black and white, while Hogan... Hogan's got plans for Souled Out... plans that'll be revealed on Nitro. In a decent bout, Goldberg would see some issues with Perry Saturn, who had both Kidman and Horace at ringside. During the match, they'd distract the referee, but would cheat to hit Goldberg from behind. It wouldn't be until some intervention from Raven's oppenent at Souled Out, Chris Benoit, jumping the rail and attacking the Flock Members that Goldberg would get in some offense. On the outside, Benoit would German Suplex Kidman INTO the crowd, while chopping the hell out of Horcace before ramming the big man head first into the steel steps. Saturn would try for a springboard attack, but Goldberg ducks it, runs the ropes, SPEAR! It's elemantry from here! JACKHAMMER TO SATURN! Goldberg gets the pinfall and continues his dominant streak, but coming into the ring is Chris Benoit! The fans go nuts for this face off, but Benoit is preoccupied with Saturn, who tries to escape! Goldberg leaves the ring, satisfied, but Benoit pulls Saturn back and knocks him out with a German Suplex combo! Benoit remembers what Saturn did to him, and he's going to make an example! He gets a microphone and puts it to Saturn's mouth as he's in the Crossface! Again and again he shouts "I QUIT", but Benoit doesn't let go until he's knocked out cold! Raven's a dead man walking! Hart versus Hogan?!?
The Nitro before Souled Out starts off with a big bang, as two icons of the sport of professional wrestling butt heads. With Scott Hall in his corner, Hogan laid down the challenge to Bret Hart. Hogan mentioned that on several occasions, he heard whispers and murmurs from fans of the age old question; who would win? At Souled Out, that answer will be delivered, and it's pretty damn obvious. Bret would walk out, looking fresher then ever and not worrying about the numbers game. They'd trade back and fourth, and ultimately, Bret stood his ground. "You want what I want Hogan... THE WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP! I respect Sting, I respect what he's done, but YOU PUSHED IT HOGAN! And at Souled Out, I'm gonna make you feel what The Anvil felt on Thunder!" The gauntlet's been set, and you can practically hear J.J. Dillion making the contract. But Hogan's not finished, he wants to know Bret still has it, he wants to know if Bret's even worth Hollywood's time, enter Scott Hall, who's more then happy to take on Bret, the rival of one of his "kliq" buddies. The main event for tonight? Hall vs. Hart. It's one you want to set your DVRs to folks.

The Giant defeats Disco Inferno (5:43)
A majority of this bout would see a royally pissed off Giant trying to grab ahold of a cowardly Disco, but a terrible clothesline attempt would spell disaster as The Giant whooped him for the next few minutes. Disco would throw a punch, only to accidentally slap The Giant. The Giant's eyes grew in size, and he grabbed Disco hard by the throat, nearly putting him through the damn ring with a chokeslam before picking up the victory. With his eyes set on DDP and Kevin Nash, we could be seeing a terrifying campaign of pain governed by The Giant as the United States Champion.

Jericho promises victory for his loyal fans!
Chris Jericho, now sporting stubble, a contrast from his usual clean cut look, went ahead and dressed down his Souled Out oppenents, Ultimo Dragon and Eddie Guerrero, admitting that he's obviously the popular pick to win the Cruiserweight Championship in their triple threat match at Souled Out. The fans however... disagree. An "Ultimo" chant breaks out, and he isn't having it. He puts a hand up and admits Ultimo Dragon isn't bad, but he's not good either, he's just another coward behind a mask that can't stand having people who really know him ask what it was like losing to Chris Jericho! That didn't go so well with the fans, so Jericho tries to clear the air, saying Jericho will represent WCW well, AND it's fans. Again, he's booed, and he has enough, kissing the fans goodbye. The camera however catches a disgusted frown, as the cracks begin to show.

An Offer You CAN'T Refuse!
Backstage, both members of The Public Enemy are seen walking up to James Vandenburg, who suprisingly doesn't have his client, Mortis, around. He does however, have a scheme. He puts it out simple, "Last week, we helped you... now, it's time to help yourselves. The Steiner's are a mutual enemy to my CLIENTS... and you are on the cusp of unlocking your potential... join us, it'd be the wise thing to do." As interesting as this offer is... Rocco and Grunge decline, laughing. They lay it out, it was just a simple beatdown. They don't need no help from a freak like Vandenburg, they tell James to keep his green lapdog away, or they'll put him through a table too. As they walk away, Vandenburg's grin stays, something's fishy.

Dean Malenko defeats nine other men in a Battle Royal to become the No #1 Contender for the WCW Television Championship (8:65)

In a hard fought battle, El Dandy would go flying into Jim Duggan, accidentally eliminating himself in the process. Meanwhile, Fit Finaly would get rid of Alex Wright, while Scotty Riggs and Buff Bagwell would double clothesline Finaly out of the ring. The former "American Males" would start throwing fits, but Steve McMichael would shoulder tackle them out of the ring. Rick Martel, being the smart man he is, would spray McMichael in the face with his tanning spray, causing him to be eliminated. Martel's looking fresh and good, but Malenko would drop him on his head with a back suplex, before back suplexing him over the top rope. Down to just Malenko and Curt Hennig, leading to a nice display of technical skill. Hennig is looking for another shot at Booker T, and he's about to get it as he's about to clothesline Malenko out of the ring, but a pull of the ropes would send Hennig out of the ring! Malenko did it! After being out of action for weeks, he's found himself into a title match at Souled Out! Hennig sits down on the floor confused, shocked, and most of all, upset. Is this the end of the "Perfect" career of Hennig?

Evening The Odds!
Backstage in the nWo's private locker room, "The Macho Man" is seen wearing a big grin on his face, making sudden jolts and movements as he folds up a steel chair. "Heheheho-yeah, y'wanna mess with the nWoooo? Ya wanna be a big SHOT?! HUH?! DO YA?!", he says all of this at the chair, as if it was a person. He laid out the challenge to Sting, he wants that WCW Title. "Well 'ya messed up big, ya MESSED UP! Cus' now yeah... now I got 'da chance to run the pack! Now I've got the chance to be THE MAN... and I'm gonna show you Sting... I'm gonna bust you up so bad you won't even make it to Souled OUT!... But first, I'm gonna send THE HITMAN back to Canada, then come Sunday, the belt is MINE!" The Macho Man's speech is a sight to behold, he's not even aware of the camera behind him, his line about "running the pack" is questionable... but there's no question that Macho Man should've left the door closed, because behind him?

SiqFvKP.jpg

It's STING! The WCW World Heavyweight Champion stays silent, stepping into the locker room. The camera only catches him shutting the door shut behind him, and the sounds of a steel chair and baseball bat colliding can be heard, only before a sudden smack, a thud, and then silence, with Sting walking out of the room, leaving The Macho Man out. It's clear, Sting accepts the challenge for Souled Out, and tonight? Bret Hart has one less man to worry about.

Bret Hart defeats Scott Hall (w/ "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan) (13:32)
It's Bret Hart's first ever match in WCW, and the fans are ecstatic for this one. They've wait a long time for this, but Scott Hall is looking to spoil the fun. Hall has Bret Hart's oppenent for Souled Out, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan in his corner. Bret is quick and smooth like butter in the ring, out wrestling Scott, but a quick left punch knocks Bret down. Bret feels the pain of a body slam, an elbow drop, and a big leg drop attempt, but moves out of the way in the nick of time. Bret tries irish whipping Hall, but Hall holds on and pulls Hart into a clothesline. Hall is cool and cocky, but Hogan is instructing him to put the hurt on Hart. Hall applies the camel clutch, toying with Bret, and Hogan's enjoying it. Hart gets up though and falls backwards to slam Hall on his back, and The Hitman is back in control. Some forearms, some suplexes, it all leads to Hart hitting his forearm from the middle rope, and it connects! Hart looks to grab Hall's legs for the Sharpshooter, but Hall kicks him backwards, leading to Hogan tripping up Hart!

The referee warns Hogan, and the two start getting into it! Hall takes advantage and hits Hart with his version of the chokeslam, but instead of going for the pin, he uses the extra time from the distraction to slip out of the ring and grab a steel chair. The fans boo loudly, but Hall doesn't care, until JIM NEIDHART runs down the ramp with some serious speed! Hogan is still arguing with the referee, while Hall runs at Jim with the chair! Jim ducks it and picks up Hall! POWERSLAM TO THE OUTSIDE! Hall is hurt badly! He's tossed into the ring and Bret quickly grabs the legs of Hall! Hogan is bewildered now, trying to get in the ring, but Neidhart has a hold of his foot! SHARPSHOOTER TO HALL! Hall has no choice but to tap out!

Bret lets go of Hall, while Neidhart lets go of Hogan. Hogan, royally pissed, has half a mind to clobber the both of them, but instead, the ring is shared only by Hogan & Hart. The two lock eyes, and the tension is palpable, but that's all the time we have for Nitro. Who will reign supreme at Souled Out?

Curt Hennig defeats Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (6:53)
In a match made for old school fans to open up Thunder, Valentine's hard hitting offense would be out matched by Hennig's technical wrestling and quick thinking. The match would ultimately be over after Hennig flipped backwards out of a back body suplex, turn Valentine around, and pin him after hitting the Perfect Plex. After the match, a defeated Valentine would roll out of the ring, allowing for Hennig to cut a promo. He would discredit the fans, saying they're delusional to think Hennig has lost "it", and promises that soon, his waist would once again be decorated in gold. "I'll be at Souled Out, and this is just the first of many many wins... so I'm throwing out the challenge, if anyone's man enough to do it, step into the ring with me in Trotwood, Ohio, and see that I'm the Perfect Competitor!"

"Together, we ride straight to hell."
Malenko and Benoit, are seen backstage, and Malenko looksworried. After Benoit choked out Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker, he's been on edge, as Raven's mind games are effecting him pretty badly. He asked Benoit if he was alright, if he could still perform, to which Benoit replied saying he's more ready then ever, and that he'll finish Raven and his cronies once and for all at Souled Out, then down the line? The TV Title just might be in his sights. Malenko chuckles, saying there's an issue there, as he plans on walking out of Souled Out victorious too. Malenko's oppenent walks in with the TV Title, and the three show signs of healthy competition. Booker reminds them that tonight, it's all about taking out The Flock. Malenko & Benoit ask Booker if he's ready to be a target of The Flock, and if not, he can just back out now, but Booker reminds them that if he ever back out of a fight once in his life... he'd never be TV Champion. It's a star studded team right here. Can they survive The Flock?

"Who've ya got, Neidhart?"
Footage from a recent tour in Japan showcases Masahiro Chono & Scott Norton, known as nWo Japan, crushing a couple of local workers, as Scott Hall came in the ring to celebrate with them. It cuts to the three of them hanging out at a small bar, and Hall does the talking. He mentions Jim Neidhart, and how at Souled Out, Chono & Norton aren't even on the card. The team are disgusted, but Hall tells 'em to relax. Thanks to Eric Bischoff, the three of them will be taking on Neidhart in a six man tag. "I already know who I've got to back me up, fatboy... who's got your back?" It's a damning question, but one that will be answered sooner then later.

The Steiners (C) defeat Public Enemy, retaining the WCW World Tag Team Championships (9:32)
In an all out brawl, highlights in this match would include a double suplex from the Steiners, a few cheap shots from Rocco with a table, and a pair of clotheslines to knock Rocco out of the ring. Grunge gets up and tries to swing at Rick, but he's caught by a pounce like tackle from Scott. Scott would set up for a Doomsday, but Rocco came back in with a chair to hit Scott in the back. The two fight back and fourth while Rick is on the top rope, before Scott knocks the chair into Rocco's face to lay him out on a table in the ring. Grunge tries to intervene, but Scott scoops him up! DOOMSDAY BULLDOG THROUGH THE TABLE, PUTTING BOTH MEN THROUGH IT! The fans are ecstatic as it seems The Steiners have put Public Enemy away for good. The Steiners leave the ring, but as they do, Mortis, who has been an ally of The Public Enemy and a thorne in the side of The Steiners, slides into the ring! James Vandenburg follows alongside, shaking his head. The Public Enemy are dazed and confused, but the lights begin to dim down, and all of a sudden, green like rain begins to drip onto the entire crowd! There's a sign of mass confusion, but finally, a question that left everyone's mind is here, as emerging from the ramp is a man dressed in green ninja like clothing, wearing a helmet similar to that of a warrior. He joins Mortis and Vandenburg in the ring, and by God, it's the last person you'd expect. He takes off the helmet, and the signature mask of his is now green, while his once blue eye is now a disgusting dark tone of green... IT'S GLACIER!

The man who was once feuding with Mortis now stares at him with his emerald like eye, and the duo begin beating down The Public Enemy! Vandenburg warned them! This new duo set up Rocco, and hit their own version of a DOUBLE ELIMINATION! (cyclone kick from Glacier, legsweep from Mortis), and he is OUT of it! The Steiners look on, clutching their titles and eyeing down the new competition!

"Get the coffins ready, I've got two fresh bodies on their way!"
In a pretty standard promo, The Giant took up the whole screen and imposed his will, promising to put an end to DDP's short title reign, and to finally stomp out Kevin Nash. There can only be one giant, and DDP is just a casuality in this war.

"The belt is MINE!"
A recap video of the feud between Sting & The Macho Man plays, showing off their recent but few encounters. It focuses on their history as world champions, and The Macho Man's deranged look in his eyes matches the dark cold stare of the world champion. It's a clash where the fate of WCW could possibly be in trouble!

Chris Benoit, WCW TV Champion Booker T, and Dean Malenko defeat The Flock (Kidman, Sick Boy, Horace) (14:43)
This match would be supervised by Raven, who sat outside of the ring as Lodi, an injured Perry Saturn, and Scott Riggs would keep an eye on the action. Kidman would try his high flying offense on all three men, but each one would take turns tagging in to punish the smaller athelete. Sick Boy had even worse luck, and Horace? Horace would attempt at double clothesline on Booker and Malenko, but the Souled Out oppenents would duck and hit a double suplex, followed up by a sharpshooter by Benoit! Raven would hit the ring, standing on the apron and taunting Benoit, which leads to Benoit letting go of the hold and trying to get Raven! All hell would break loose as he tackles Raven outside of the ring and began to brawl wtih him! The referee however tries to keep an eye on the action inside. Sick Boy tries piledriving Malenko, but a sidekick from Booker takes him down! Malenko's the legal man, and Kidman tries going for a springboard attack, but he's caught and put into the Texas Cloverleaf! He has no choice but to tap out!

Still brawling outside, Raven and Benoit would be seperated by The Flock, but Raven would grab a chair and TOSS IT HEAD FIRST INTO BENOIT'S HEAD! BENOIT IS BLEEDING! Malenko and Booker roll out of the ring as The Flock retreat, with Raven looking satisfied enough with his handiwork. Benoit's blood drickles down his eyebrow and into his eye, but the tough fighter would get into the ring and point at Raven, telling him he was done for! Meanwhile, Booker holds the TV Title, but Malenko reminds him who got the win here tonight. Tensions are high, as this Sunday? We'll be Souled Out!

Highlights of the Saturday Night before Souled Out were mostly recaps of the storylines heading into the pay-per-view. Benoit & Raven look to end their feud, Macho Man wants Sting's Gold, and the epic clash between Hulk Hogan & Bret Hart is set to tear the roof down. Rick Martel would defeat Steve McMichael in a decent bout, cheating by using that bottle of spray tan of his (58%), meanwhile, Chris Jericho would offer some advice to Guerrero on how they should gang up on Ultimo, as he is a false champion, but Guerrero scoffed, walking out of frame. Jericho defeated LA Parka earlier in the evening (71%).
