“Originally it was pitched that it would be a rodent or a rat and it was going to be killed by the babyface Champion to show that I had cared about something and that babyface turned heel, so that didn’t work. Well ok, then I asked them what is it now, then they just kept extending it, extending it and extending it.”

So I was right all along. It was a rat in that thing.

Storylines like these seem like a symptom of the creative team being stretched too thin trying to come up with about 10 hours worth of ideas every week.

Then again we've had shit like this happen in the eras when there was about half as much programming.

Maybe writers just need to have a concept fully ironed out instead of trotting out half baked nonsense.

Rowan noted that he had several over the top ideas for the reveal, including one idea based off the world's smallest woman that was featured on American Horror Story. Rowan had an idea where they would build a slightly larger pet cage, and the "little woman" would be inside of it. Rowan and the little woman would have become friends, in a relationship where Rowan locked the woman in the cage to protect her from the atrocities of the outside world. Rowan believed this would have shown a different side to his character, playing off how he was a large man and this was a small, delicate woman he was protecting. On the day where they decided McIntyre would destroy the spider, Rowan said he wrote a long e-mail to Heyman to pitch another idea where there was no animal inside the cage, but the "worst fear" of anyone who looked in it. This was a play off how Mojo Rawley and No Way Jose had been terrified when they saw inside of the cage.
This would have been hilarious to be honest.

That idea was a lazy thought one and it would have not gotten Rowan over.

From the get go I thought the idea of having a Pet in the Cage was obvious and something like that happening that Rowan talked about was even more obvious. I don't think Rowan is an interesting Wrestler or talent so I don't know if it would of made him in my eyes. I do like the idea of the Cage being a Pennywise in a sense seeing your worst fear and having to conquer it. The Fiend should of had that idea though he would of made it work vs Rowan to be honest.

Would’ve certainly been better if it was a live animal for fuck sake. Better than it being a stupid ass mechanical spider which wasted three months of television.
