This is a pretty good read @Canadian Dragon if you're interested, he thinks more people will finish the game this year difficulty wise. I think that's the good thing about the open nature of this one.

In Elden Ring, we have not intentionally tried to lower the game’s difficulty, but I think more players will finish it this time. As I mentioned, the player’s level of freedom to progress through the world or return to a challenge later are all elements that I feel will help people get through the game at a more leisurely pace. Also, there isn’t a focus on pure action. The player has more agency to dictate their approach against, for example, the field bosses in the overworld and how they utilize stealth in various situations. We’ve even reduced the number of hoops that you have to jump through to enjoy it in multiplayer. So we hope the players embrace that idea of receiving help from others. And we feel like the overall clear rate will go up this time because of these things.

I'm really glad they changed the jumping mechanic, seen so many people complimenting it. As much as I love Dark Souls, it had by far some of the worst jumping I've ever encountered in any game. Super awkward. Everything about this game just seems much more ease. Like they finally figured out all the little kinks with the movement.

Elden Ring earned the biggest non-FIFA or Call of Duty video game launch in the UK since Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.

For a more recent comparison, its launch sales figures were 2.5 times greater than those of Horizon Forbidden West's, according to data from GSD (via Gamesindustry.biz).

These figures reveal that over 68 percent of Elden Rings sales came from digital downloads, with PC and Xbox consoles being the biggest digital platforms. Roughly 85 percent of Elden Ring sales on Xbox were downloaded, while digital sales account for 73 percent of PC players.

Meanwhile, PlayStation users saw a 50/50 split between Elden Ring's digital and physical sales.

With Elden Ring now sitting comfortably at the top of this week's sales chart, Horizon Forbidden West now takes third position in the GSD UK digital sales, and second in the combined top ten.

We always knew Elden Ring was going to be big, but perhaps not this big.

Dark Souls as a series hadn't even sold 10M until DS3 came out.
That line really puts it in to perspective. Very happy to hear this. Crazy how it's a brand new IP without the Dark Souls name too.

Patch 1.03 has been released. Seems like they've fixed a bunch of stuff. I've quoted them below.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have released patch 1.03 for Elden Ring, and it’s a biggie.

Headline changes include map tracking for characters you’ve met, new questlines, a new NPC, and a slew of balance adjustments — including what appears to be a nerf for the all-powerful Mimic Tear ash — and bug fixes.

You’ll now be able to record an icon and the name of any NPC you meet on the map as soon as you encounter them, which should help keep track of your adventure. The new NPC is called Jar-Bairn. Elden Ring Wiki has some notes on this character already, if you don’t mind the spoilers.

There are new questlines for the characters Diallos, Nepheli Loux, Kenneth Haight, and Gatekeeper Gostoc, too.

Vague as ever, FromSoftware also notes that it has “added some summonable NPCs in multiple situations.”

Most notable among the bug fixes are those that tackle Elden Ring’s widely reported problems with stat scaling on some weapons. Performance improvements are claimed but not detailed; hopefully they will improve things for PC players.

On the balance side, Smithing Stones have been made easier to acquire with both an increased drop rate and availability at early-game shops. Shields, several sorceries, and offensive cracked pot items have all been buffed, while there are nerfs to the spirit summoned with Mimic Tear Ash and to speedrunners’ favorite skill, Ash of War, Hoarfrost’s Stomp.

The update targets all platforms and, naturally, you’ll have to apply it before playing online.

  • Fixed a bug that sometime prevented the player from obtaining item after boss battle.
  • Fixed a bug that causes dialogue to be skipped when talking to NPCs and using custom key configurations.
  • Fixed a bug that causes the player to freeze when riding.
  • Fixed a bug that causes arcane to scale incorrectly for some weapons.
  • In situation where the player cannot obtain more than 2 talisman pouches, added talisman pouch to Twin Maiden Husks shop line up.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the user from warping to sites of grace from the map at the end of the game.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the player from moving to the next area after the battle with the Fire Giant.
  • Fixed a bug which causes some weapons to have incorrect scaling after strengthening.
  • Fixed a bug which causes some weapons to not use stat scaling.
  • Fixed hang-ups in certain occasions.
  • Fixed a bug which incorrectly displays multiplayer area boundary when playing online.
  • Fixed a bug that allows player to activate Erdtree Greatshield’s weapon skill without absorbing an attack using a special combination of item and incantation.
  • Fixed a bug which causes Fire’s Deadly Sin incantation to have different effect.
  • Fixed a bug with the Ash of War, Determination and Royal Knight’s Resolve, where the damage buff will also apply to other weapons without that skill.
  • Adjusted the visual effect of Unseen Form spell.
  • Deleted the Ragged armor set from the game which was mistakenly obtainable in previous patch.
  • Fixed a bug that causes some hostile NPCs to drop Furlcalling Finger Remedy.
  • Fixed a bug that causes incorrect sound effect to play in some situations.
  • Fixed a bug which causes visual animation and hitboxes to not be displayed correctly on some maps.
  • Fixed bugs which causes incorrect visual and behavior for some enemies.
  • Fixed a bug that causes incorrect stat parameter for some armor.
  • Text fixes.
  • Other performance improvement and bug fixes.

BALANCE CHANGES

  • Increased the drop rate of Smithing Stone for some enemies.
  • Added Smithing Stone to some early game shop line up.
  • Increased shield’s effectiveness.
  • Increased the damage for all offensive cracked pot items.
  • Increased the damage for the following items: Spark Aromatic/Poison Spraymist.
  • Increased the effect duration for the following items: Uplifting Aromatic/ Ironjar Aromatic.
  • Increased HP healing for Torrent when using the following items: Rowa Raisin/ Sweet Raisin/ Frozen Raisin
  • Reduced FP consumption and increased the damage of the following sorceries: Glintstone Cometshard/ Comet/ Night Comet
  • Increased the damage of the following sorceries: Gravity Well/ Collapsing Stars/ Crystal Barrage
  • Decreased FP consumption of the following sorceries: Star Shower/ Rock Blaster/ Gavel of Haima/ Founding Rain of Stars/ Stars of Ruin/Greatblade Phalanx/Magic Downpour/ Loretta’s Greatbow/ Loretta’s Mastery/ Carian Greatsword/ Carian Piercer/ Shard Spiral
  • Raised projectile speed and range of Great Glintstone Shard
  • Decreased Ash of War, Hoarfrost Stomp’s damage and increase cast time.
  • Increased Ash of War, Bloody Slash’s self-inflict damage while slightly lowering the damage and increasing the cast time.
  • Decreased weapon skill, Sword of Night and Flame’s damage.
  • Increased FP consumption and lower duration of Ash of War, Barricade Shield.
  • Changed FP consumption timing of Ash of War, Prelate’s Charge.
  • Decreased the damage of spirit summoned when using the item Mimic Tear Ash and changed the spirit’s behavior pattern.
  • Other enemy and weapon balance changes

Man this is so cool. Modders always blow me away with their creativity.

One of the big reasons I hope to be able to PC game more in the future.

Several Star Wars-themed mods have hit Elden Ring recently, allowing players to take on the big bosses of FromSoftware’s open-world hit with the big boss of the Death Star. Modders drs32 and XeIerate have done the work to let PC players charge forth as Darth Vader, complete with his iconic red lightsaber.

In a gameplay example from YouTuber lolmetwice, viewers can see Godrick The Grafted feel the power of the Dark Side thanks to a few swift swings of the ancient weapon of the Jedi. Players hoping to recreate this will need to download both the Darth Vader armor and a separate lightsaber mod from known modding mega-site Nexus Mods. With the right setup, it makes for one Elden Ring experience that’s perfect for Star Wars Day.



Of course, the Star Wars content is a fan-made addition to the game, so it won’t work on consoles. Xbox and PlayStation have traditionally shunned player-created content in their closed ecosystems, with only a few Bethesda games and a handful of others gaining support for the feature in the last decade.

Still, if you’re playing Elden Ring on PC and want to do a Star Wars run, the mods don’t stop at Anakin. The creators of the Darth Vader armor have already made a dual-sided lightsaber weapon and hope to add Darth Maul to the game relatively soon. Perhaps the model will even split in half when one of From Software’s giant bosses slices the player, although that would probably be too much to expect.
