Recently on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness, WWE greats and podcast co-hosts Edge and Christian weighed in on Asuka and her WWE main roster debut at WWE TLC (2017). While Edge claimed that he does not see the appeal of Asuka, Christian suggested that 'The Empress Of Tomorrow' was not the first WWE Superstar to fail to live up to the hype and she will not be the last.

In what may be a reverse rocket-strap situation, Edge admitted that he does not get the hype surrounding Asuka.

"I'm sure I'll get lambasted for this, but I don't get the Asuka thing. Like, I really don't. She's fine and she's solid, but I don't know." Edge added, "even going back to the NXT stuff, I've watched it. I don't know. I just never really bought in. And it's not that I don't want to or anything like that. I don't know. Even the entrance and everything, it's very [Shinsuke] Nakamura-esque and he was doing it first, so I don't know. I've never really understood the hype."

On the subject of Asuka, Christian said living up to hype has been a problem for other peeps, not just the longest reigning and undefeated NXT Women's Champion.

"I think it happens, not just with her, but with a lot of people when there's certain hype around somebody. And, honestly, I've never seen a full match of her's until last night [TLC]." Christian continued, "so maybe I have, one or two. I think that when there's a lot of hype and that sort of thing, it makes it harder, sometimes, for the talent to kind of live up to the [video] packages and the hype and expecting something completely different than they've seen before and that's really hard to do. I liked her body language. I like the presentation. I like the persona. She seemed really comfortable with what she's doing. But yeah, there were some certain things in [the match versus Emma] that weren't super-crisp or anything like that, but it could be the first time she

I also think same with Edge. She's good but I don't get all this star hype. Not young, not that damn talented as Sasha-Charlotte-Becky in the ring, language barrier... I gues the international market.

Edge also thinks Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins are worth pushing.

He's not right about everything :MJ:

I think Edge hasn't followed her enough to get the hype. I will agree about the ankle lock spot.

When you knew Angle was going to be in the main event, maybe don't use the ankle lock tonight.

Edge also thinks Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins are worth pushing.

He's not right about everything :MJ:
I liked them as a tag team in 2008, but is he talking about today as singles stars? :TI:

Didn't Asuka debut before Nakamura?

How can her entrance be "esque" if she did it first?

I scratched my head at that, too, but I guess he means when Naka was in Japan?

I guess you'd have to see if Asuka was doing it as Kana if we cared enough to.

Both Edge and Christian said if this same podcast that they have only seen 2 Askua matches in their entirety and those were the two against Emma.

Based on this two matches, if I were seeing her for the first time, I'd say the same thing

The problem was that she was talked up so much, being super dominant and the long ass unbeaten streak and she came in and had a strong, back and forth competitive match with someone who was released 2 days later. She either needed to have a quick, showcase her moveset kinda match or a back and forth match with someone who is actually credible.

She's gonna be fine, although I am interested in seeing how she gets used going forward with the undefeated streak and how they manage to keep her fresh with the limited roster they have.

LOL bringing up Emmas release is pure armchair arm dragging. She beat 3 former champions in order to face Asuka...what's it say about the entire division if a chick who beat 3 former champions if Asuka kills her in 50 seconds?

Emma looking good in defeat wasn't a problem at all. 100% agreed.

Emma didn't just look strong...she controlled 80% of the match.

Asuka's debut should've been her getting her shit in so it can get over on the main roster. No reason for her to be working from underneath as much as she did

Probably Edge didn't watch any NXT but I was talking about NXT. Her run didn't impressed me. It was boring tbh. The people around her made it fun. Also her one on one matches -except Moon and Emma- wasn't great. And also vs Nia told a good story.

Thought we knew that Main roster > NXT.

A 50/50 match may as well be a squash for a NXT call up :side:

Idk bro, having 50/50 matches against people we're catered to not caring about can hurt a new stars luster.

Nakamura going 12 minutes with Ziggler and having Ziggler control the match knocked some shine off Nakamura.

He doesn't look special and neither does Asuka

Wasn't Nakamura a title challenger?

Doesn't mean he's special.

Hell Bray Wyatt and Jinder Mahal were/are Champions and they're far from special.

My whole point is you only get one chance to make a first impression. And for the casual fans that have never watched NXT or Japan, Asuka's first impression was a dud.
