It smells like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is cooking up a hot wrestling project: His banner Seven Bucks Productions, which he co-founded with Dany Garcia, is teaming with Misher Films, WWE Studios and Film4 to produce upcoming feature film Fighting With My Family.

The comedy-drama is set to be written and directed by Stephen Merchant (The Office) and is based on the true story of WWE star Paige and her family of professional wrestlers.

Merchant will write, direct and exec produce the project, which is inspired by the Channel 4 Brit documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family. Johnson will play a role in the film while rising star Florence Pugh will star as Paige and Jack Lowden will play her brother Zak.

Film follows the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya and son Zak who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for the WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings.

WWE Studios are co-financing the film with Film4, who have developed the project from its inception. It’s expected to begin shooting in Los Angeles and London this month.

Lena Headey and Nick Frost Join Dwayne Johnson's Pro Wrestling Movie

Dwayne Johnson has announced that English actors Lena Headey and Nick Frost have joined the cast of the real-life wrestling comedy/drama Fighting with My Family. The pair will play Julia and Ricky Knight, parents of WWE Superstar Paige.

Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, Misher Films, WWE Studios, and Film4 are all teaming up to produce the upcoming feature film, written and directed by Stephen Merchant, based on the true personal story of WWE Superstar Paige and her family of professional wrestlers.

Johnson will also play a role in the film, with rising star Florence Pugh, who will play WWE Superstar Paige, and Jack Lowden, who will play her brother, Zak. The film will start principal photography in Los Angeles and London this month.

Vince Vaughn has joined the cast of the dramedy “Fighting With My Family” starring Florence Pugh, Nick Frost and Lena Headey.

Johnson, who announced the casting on his social media accounts, will also have a role in the film as well as produce along with his partner Dany Garcia through Seven Bucks Productions banner. Misher Films, WWE Studios and Film4 will also produce.

MGM recently acquired the worldwide rights to the film at the Berlin market.

The movie will be written and directed by Stephen Merchant (“The Office”) and is based on the true story of WWE star Paige and her family of professional wrestlers. The film, revolves around a reformed gangster and former wrestler, his wife and their children, who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. The parents want a better life for their children, and when the siblings get the chance to audition for the WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, the brother and sister are about to learn that becoming a WWE superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible.

Vaughn and Johnson had previously worked in the “Get Shorty” sequel, “Be Cool.”

Following his performance in the the Oscar-nominated “Hacksaw Ridge,” Vaughn has begun stepping outside his comfort zone of comedic roles that made him famous like “Wedding Crashers” and “Old School.” He just finished filming on the prison action film “Brawl in Cell Block 99” and the police brutality movie “Dragged Across Concrete” opposite his “Hacksaw Ridge” director Mel Gibson.

Vaughn is repped by WME.

Will WWE keep Paige on payroll just while they're filming this?

Is this still happening? I ask because I know that Steven Merchant (of the UK Office fame) is set to direct a film about the Knight Family set for release this year. I'm guessing that's a separate project to this.

Same, those trailers did not get me any sort of hyped but everyone says it's decent to good so far. WWE must be paying people off :side:
