One thing I don’t understand is why guys think it’s a good time to be a free agent. No other major wrestling promotion is hiring and the indies are currently dead

First of all, Cody sayin' that is a shoot because he doesn't want to give away who he would sign.

Second of all, if Drew Gulak gave his notice, he's an idiot. WWE is clearly behind him with the way they're usin' him. They don't let most wrestlers with his talent have matches like he did on SmackDown or Elimination Chamber unless they trust them even with Bryan's backin'. He's bein' treated better than Cesaro for fuck's sake.

From what It sounds like, his contract expired before they finished renegotiating. I don’t know if they’re still talking but he hasn’t changed his name on Twitter like most released stars do and he’s still retweeting WWE content.

My guess is that Drew was wanting more money since he isn't on 205 Live anymore (and is getting to work with Daniel Bryan) and they couldn't come to a deal before his current contract expired. So it could be a stand off and he still wants to be in the WWE, willing to sit out until he gets what he wants.

I would think that he is aware that it's not a good time to have ambitions of working elsewhere right now.
