I'm quite enjoying AEWs take on the empty arena tbh - the wrestlers at ringside, the backroom cuts and Jericho has been hilarious. Mania wasn't bad either. I wasn't a fan of the Orton/Edge match - but I don't like the long rambling walk around the arena that these things can turn into (and this one did) because it just get's harder and harder to make it look like it's not a pretend fight.
I also get Meltzer not rating the funhouse match. I wasn't a match, it was a segment designed to look like a fever dream. Was it good as the thing that it was, yes it really was and it's an excellent and original way to differentiate the Fiend. Was it a wrestling match? Nope.
Should either company be doing their thing at all right now, ppv or not? No, not really, it sends an incredibly weird message to the public (don't shake hands or stand within a couple of meters of somebody else BUT our guys are gonna dress in spandex and rub their sweaty bodies against each other.).
That said, from what's being suggested in the news, there's probably not going to be a cure in the near future (and, if one is eventually found then it's gonna be a good few months after that before it's being distributed widely). It also being suggested that it's possible to catch it more than once..... so this type of pro-wrestling is the new normal for the forseeable future at least. And, as that's the case, they need the big blow off and gimmick shows because that's just how proper wrestling is supposed to work.
I also think it would be ridiculous to charge full price for a PPV going forwards - £15 is probably a lot for a lot of people right now tbh - they need to go down to £10 to become a potential impulse buy.
