Nintendo has apparently gone bananas, handing Metroid Prime vet Retro Studios its treasured Donkey Kong Country franchise. The company revealed Donkey Kong Country Returns at its E3 keynote, showing a new trailer that looked ... pretty much exactly like you'd think it would. It's the traditional 2D platformer we all know in love, bestowed with new 3D graphics and featuring both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. The game will be available on the Wii this holiday.

I don't care what all the Wii-haters thinks or the GOW fanboys think, the Wii is the BEST system for platformers and boasts the best platforming library and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will blow GOW 3 out of the water as far as best platformer of 2010.

God of War 3 is not a "platformer". It has platforming segments but its a hack and slash style genre. Donkey Kong was cool back in the day but I wish Retro would make something more mature(they made the prime series afterall).

It's a hack and slash platformer. In it's very basic premise it's to get from the start of the game to the end of the game by eliminating the bad guys and the bosses. That, my friend, is the basic premise of platforming. God of War 3 is a platformer.
