More digital game removal news: The victims this time are Donkey Kong Country and its two sequels. The games are being removed after November 25th, at which point gamers in PAL territories will no longer be able to purchase the titles from Nintendo's Wii Shop.

According to NintenDaan via GoNintendo, there's a single screenshot of the notice letting everyone know that Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, will cease to digitally exist on Nintendo's own distribution channel for the Wii.

There's no reason given as to why these classic SNES titles are being removed from Nintendo's digital e-shop, but I imagine it has something to do with licensing? Why else would they remove their own game from their own shop?

Regardless, anyone who hasn't played the SNES trilogy of Donkey Kong games won't be able to purchase them for their Wii after November 25th. While we don't advocate piracy here, it seems like that might be the only option for those who wish to play the games. I know Nintendo has a strict, no-nonsense policy on emulation it kind of seems like that's where they're pushing gamers who may want to play the game, unless they expect everyone in the region where the games will be removed to go out and buy the old carts for the SNES? In that case, they can keep dreaming.

Gotta be down to the whole Rare/Nintendo rights again. Shame, but luckily I've still got the original on the SNES, so it's all good.
