UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz hasn't been able to compete inside the Octagon since late in 2011 when he defeated Demetrious Johnson. First, Cruz stepped away from action to compete opposite Urijah Faber on The Ultimate Fighter: Live. During training, "The Dominator" suffered a knee injury, had surgery, and was sidelined indefinitely.

The procedure, however, did not go as planned, and Cruz was forced to go back under the knife. He is currently rehabbing once again, and UFC president Dana White believes another year-long layoff could push the 27-year-old to retirement.

"I hate to even say this about the kid since he's a really good kid, but he should seriously probably look at retirement (if he gets hurt again)," White said. "Yes, we expect him to come back. Everything is going as well as can be expected."

Renan Barao, the interim UFC bantamweight champion, will put his title on the line this Saturday against Michael McDonald at UFC On FUEL TV: Barao Vs. McDonald. White added during the pre-fight press conference that there are no plans to strip Cruz of the belt, unless he does retire from MMA.

"The way that it works in the fight business is you beat the man who beat the man," White stated.

I sincerely hope for a speedy recovery for Cruz, seeing as he's one of the more entertaining fighters in the UFC, and an ACL tear is one of the worst pains in the world! (Speaking as someone who has suffered the same injury)

Although at this rate considering he tore it, had surgery, than tore it again in training (which if anyone who does MMA will know, you go anywhere from 50-70%) who knows how it's going to hold up in a fight when you're giving it your all. Unfortunately I hate to say it but retirement may very well be an option if he suffers another injury in training. I know Georges St-Pierre had an ACL tear but I think he learned his lesson when he did it considering he had a knee injury previous and came back harder from the injury.
