What accent do ya have?

Buffalo accent, it sounds different, depending on what part of Buffalo someone is from. Mine isn't extremely strong, it comes up in some words.

Some examples:

Coffee = Cahh-fee
Car = Cah-ar
Pop = Pah-hp
Accent = eey-ack-sent
Garbage = Gahr-bage
Socks = Sah-cks
Hot = Haa-hht

I am trying my best to phonetically break it up, it's easier to say it and think it than try to post how to say it lol

Here is a Buffalo accent:

Being from Minnesota, we have the stereotypical speech pattern that everyone else in the rest of the world imitates poorly. "Oh ya, you betcha!", but it's fairly subdued compared to Fargo's depiction.

- Pop is pronounced as "pahp" but without the focus on the ah. It's a quick word, instead of soda, that shit takes forever. We also use Coke instead of Cola, but I'm pretty sure everyone uses that now.

- Bag is pronounced "b-ay-g".

- We also have the phrase "uff-da", which is based off the Norwegian word huff. It's pronounced "oof-duh". It is similar in meaning to Yiddish "oy vey".

- "Dontcha know" is another phrase, but it rarely comes up in Southern Minnesota. You're more likely to hear that from native Minnesotan elders or folks up by Bemidji and above.

- "You betcha" is another stereotypical phrase we use. Not as much as people think we do, but it's pretty prevalent in casual conversation.

- Instead of Casserole, we use Hotdish.

- I think the biggest defining feature here in Minnesota is our supposed "Minnesota Nice", which is us taking politeness and turning it to 11. While it's true most of us are pretty polite, it's not really us actually being "nice" necessarily. A lot of the time it's us being passive-aggressive, but subtle enough to not be noticeable in certain situations. Most of the time we try to avoid making strong personal stances in order to maintain the status quo of peaceful conversation. Although that's changed quite a bit recently.

I dunno, it's hard to describe Minnesota's accent very well since most people in Southern Minnesota have a *very* weak "Fargo" accent.

I'm from New Zealand so I have a pretty thick Kiwi accent. Though when I'm overseas I get mistaken for an Australian or British, but I think that's mainly cos people don't hear Kiwi accents much so they can't tell one when they hear one. It gets a lot of attention though, people have outright stared at me or had to ask :lol

One particular Kiwi thing we have is we talk EXTREMELY fast when we speak to other Kiwis. I have to slow down my speech a lot otherwise people outside of NZ can't understand me :D

Your Minnesota nice sounds a lot like our fake southern nice where people act polite and then talk shit behind your back when I'd rather them talk shit to my face
