I'll just say it bluntly, FPS games are my favorite games. Well, it has to be seeing as to how Half Life 2 is pretty much the greatest game ever made. (And also my favorite game of all time.)
I know people have gotten tired of it, but people play games to unwind, a bit of mindless fictional violence mixed in with cool aliens/monsters never hurt anybody.
Speaking of generic, the one franchise that really needs a revamp is Call of Duty. Not to derail the thread but I found myself falling asleep when playing some of the latest installments. Not that it's a bad game, it's just so generic...."World War/Save the country/Patriotism" bullshit played over and over again in an endless loop.
