Ugh, I just had a thought pertaining to the whole bus-driver thing-

Kira does force Ryuk and another Shinigami to exchange Death Notes in order to dissolve any suspicion on him. Light also does a ton of switching around with the Death Note and a fake Notebook.

The thing that stuck out the most was Banez' claim. As most people have said, Ryuk could be Indy since even though he was with Light throughout the show, he wasn't exactly an ally so to speak. He just wanted to start some shit and watch people die.

The thing is, it's like Poyser said just a bit ago. We're (myself included) focusing way too much on the character name when our options are probably simply "Banez is town and claimed his character, Ryuk" or "Banez is not town and claimed a fake character he was given." bc no way Banez just claims his actual character so the spec is "would Odo give Ryuk as a fake" not necessarily would Ryuk be town, scum, indy. Which probably isn't all that constructive either

Basically, there is more than one actual Death Note. Gods of the dead carry them around (they are Shinigami), they each have a Death Note.

When one of Kira's associates (who has a Death Note herself) gets arrested on suspicion of being a fake Kira, the real Kira forces Ryuk to take the associate's Death Note, and Light gives "his" Death Note to the Shinigami that accompanied his associate.

Then, later on in the series, Light uses two associates of his to act as a proxy for his killings. A lawyer uses a fake notebook to act as a decoy, and then he sends the names to another of Kira's associates to actually do the killings, all while Light/Kira pretends to helm the investigation into the identity of Kira.

I'mma head to sleep, so i'mma let you guys sort that amongst yourselves out, you can either wait for others to weigh in, or put a rope around my neck and pull the lever.

Or you could get a claim out of someone else if you feel like it. My vote on Haza stays.

Realistically, I'm calling the shot here and saying that the Kira team consists of (as far as names are concerned):

Light Yagami/Kira
Misa Amane/"Copycat" Kira
Teru Mikami/"Proxy" Kira
Kiyomi Takada
Hitoshi Demegawa

Then there's probably at least one independent player:

Kyousuke Higuchi

Yes, this. Light manipulates people into switching places and swapping items for his own personal gain.
