WWE has announced that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan successfully underwent neck surgery today in Pittsburgh, PA with Dr. James Maroon. Bryan is now wearing a soft neck brace and is already out of bed. He is expected to be released from the hospital in 1-2 days.

WWE noted that a lingering nerve issue with Bryan's neck caused them to have to perform a cervical foraminotomy in order to decompress the root of the nerve. During that procedure, surgeons go in through the back of the neck and shave the inside edges of joints in the neck and spine that are causing compression in order to prevent the eventual collapse of a spinal disc.

WWE adds that there is no timetable for Bryan's return yet. Usual recovery from this procedure for heavy physical activity is 2-3 months.

We noted before that WWE sources were expecting Bryan to return around SummerSlam. WWE will address the state of the title on RAW this coming Monday from London.
So what are we all thinking that happens with this who scenario then?

Providing he is out around 2-3 months then I do think you have to make him give up or strip him of it until he comes back. It's a shame that he hasn't had a chance to run with the titles yet but a neck injury really isn't something to fuck about so they have to go the safe route with him.

It's gonna be super interesting to see how they play it out if they do take the titles off of him and whether they go a super heelish route and just stick it on Kane by default or they set up some star studded tournament with Shield/Evolution/Cena/Wyatt etc.

Damn I thought it was just an angle. What depressingly bad luck for the underdog kid. If the title is going up in the air then it'll be interesting to see who WWE props up next if they don't just give it back to Cena.

It would be nice if the did some sort of competition for the belt. Man, I remember the good ol' days of King of the Ring! That would be cool to do, though im not sure how I would feel with it stretched out over multiple raws, and I doubt they would make a whole PPV from it; but hey im a dreamer...

Don't forget that suicide dive.

Maineventers are supposed to tone down their shit when they get into money making years, they are over. They don't need to kill themselves to get noticed anymore.

I agree, Bryan could easily work a crowd with his match work by this point. At least the suicide dive looks good though, the headbutt is just cringe-worthy, but I agree that he should stop both.

Let's add that crazy ass running kick vs a cornered opponent where he always lands on the back of his head. With his current style, he just won't be built for being the number 2. Adapt, watch some Austin tapes or Michaels

Yeah as bad as I feel for Bryan they have to take the belt off him at this point three months is just too long. Its a test of WWE's to see what direction they go in until his return.

I'd say have Bray win the title. He's pretty over with the fans, and lets face it, whoever wins it is only going to be a transitional champion until Bryan comes back and gets it. This could be a good test to see how fans react to a Bray Wyatt main event run.

Bray isn't over enough to become champion, and him holding the title wouldn't do him any favours unless it's to destroy the title as it symbolizes the shit his character wants to burn. Him being some transitional champion wouldn't help him either. Transitional champions holding the belts for a month or two should be a thing of the past.

If someone is to be a transitional champ, it should be someone over enough so that him losing it wouldn't matter because that guy is bulletproof. Triple H is my candidate, he can just put the belt on hinmself to gain the most heat possible, that or panic and make some sort of giant gimmick match at the PPV like HIAC or EC filled with their biggest names.

NO! FUCK NO! DO NOT PUT THAT DAMN BELT IN THE CENA/BRAY PROGRAM! KEEP IT AWAY FROM CENA!

This is the perfect opportunity to push Cesaro up... IDK who you throw him into a feud with, but let him capture the strap, get a couple PPV's in, and then let him defend vs. Bryan at SS if Bryan is ready.

HAHAHAHA just putting the title on someone won't automatically make them a star.

The man makes the title, not the title makes the man. Cesaro getting a title would be like Sheamus getting the title. It won't help the company out, and it won't help that performer out. Cesaro section isn't anywhere big enough to merit him getting a title this early into his push.

Rather have Big Dave get the belt than Cesaro, Bray....any guy just getting a push atm. Atleast he will get heat instead of apathy.

Never said "just throw it onto him" ... have him earn it, obviously.

"Earning it" at the next PPV would be hotshotting as bad as Eric Young obviously. He could beat the entire Wyatt family, Shield and Evolution in a handicap match and it would still be hotshotting.

WWE just lost over 300 million dollars, they ain't going to experiment with new guys now, guess who the title most likely goes back to? :cena4:

WWE losing 300M had nothing to do with who's champion, It was about the NBC TV deal.

Giving Triple H, Orton, or Batista would be the absolute worst decisions. Orton is boring as fuck and sucks any energy out of the crowd. Batista has bad heat, not good heat, and giving Triple H another world title run just to be a transitional champion is stupid as hell. Cena winning it would just discredit this entire Wyatt feud, which has been awesome.

That leaves WWE having to take a chance on a new guy. Or Kane. Kane is a great person to be a transitional champion, and can just drop it back to Bryan in a couple months, but I think Kane is leaving soon too for his new movie.
