- Daniel Bryan recently spoke with IGN to promote the upcoming WWE 2K16 video game. The full interview is at this link. Below are a few highlights:

His status:

"So, we don't know. I had a concussion in April, and obviously they're very hyper-sensitive about concussion stuff right now. One neurologist who specializes in concussions - who was the neurologist for the Super Bowl last year - cleared me with no limitations. All my testing came back excellent. But the WWE's medical doctor is skeptical, because of my history of concussions and that sort of thing. So they will not clear me. So now, we have two doctors: one saying no, one saying yes. They're going to send me to a third doctor at some point in the near future and that doctor will decide my fate."

"The WWE doctor Joe Maroon [is] amazing and highly respected in the concussion field, and if they send me to a third neurologist who's also highly respected in the concussion field and they say literally no...well, then is it really smart to go against two doctors? I get all fired up...and then I'm like, maybe that's not the best thing for me and my family going forward."

If he would work indies if WWE doesn't clear him:

"John Cena and I actually had this discussion. He said, 'if something were to happen to you and the WWE, would you go back to doing the indies?' Absolutely!"

Bryan said he's got a fascination with lucha and the idea of doing a mask vs. hair match is appealing to him as is main eventing a CMLL anniversary show.

So, one doctor says YES, but the WWE medical says NO. I get that WWE's hesitant to clear DB because of all the concussion lawsuits they're dealing with right now, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he left WWE and either went back to ROH or headed to Japan... Or this all a work and he returns as a surprise entrant at the Royal Rumble.

Forgot to add this... Damn! He's interested in Lucha now. There are so many great things he could try if he isn't cleared to wrestle in WWE anymore.

I was being really optimistic before and thinking that if Reigns wasn't over enough for management to be confident enough in booking him in the title match again at Wrestlemania, then maybe they were intentionally keeping Bryan off-screen until the Royal Rumble where he could return as a surprise entrant and win it instead (the bonus upside to that would also be that it certainly wouldn't hurt to give Bryan the extra months off), but I guess you can scratch that.

This Bryan interview just makes me think McMahon still wants Daniel Bryan gone somehow no matter what (Because of his look), think about it, its the WWE Doctors who are telling Daniel Bryan "no" and to see a 3rd doctor when the one in the NFL said he looked great! Something is fishy here, Vince always wants it his way and a guy like Daniel Bryan as the main man pisses him off. So he's telling the doctors to tell Bryan this shit to drive him away from WWE. This wouldn't be the first time either, I believe McMahon did this secretly to CM Punk also.

This is just my opinion and I just realllly wanted to get that off my chest. lol

Vince may not like some of his employees, but if they are good for business, he'll keep 'em around. Read: Paul Heyman

If Vince didn't like Bryan, he would've fired him already.

One of the reasons DB hasn't been cleared yet could be because WWE wants the Yes Movement to die, although that would be silly...
But another reason is that they're dealing with concussion lawsuits right now and that's why they're hesitant to clear him.

I'm in no way defending the 'E, just pointing out the obvious. Whatever DB decides to do next, leave WWE or stay in WWE, I'll support it.

Daniel just needs to wait. No need to hurry. That injury is serious and it can cause him his career. He sounds so impatient. He just needs to wait a bit more. Wait till Rumble and make a triumphant return D-Bryan.

Same, I think you're right on keeping D-Bry around, maybe Vince is trying to have his popularity die down so he can push the "good looking" guys? The lawsuits are another factor also so that's another thing to point out to me. Forgot about those.

I've said it all along, WWE truly does not want Bryan on top. And I feel that Vince will continue to hold him back.

Vince McMahon Reportedly Going Back-and-Forth On Daniel Bryan's WWE Status

The latest word on Daniel Bryan's WWE status is that company officials were still waiting on the results of a third doctor's findings in regards to Bryan's health and if he should be put back in the ring.

As we've noted, WWE's Dr. Joseph Maroon ruled that Bryan should not wrestle again due to the number of concussions he's suffered. Bryan later got a doctor that works with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals to test him and his brain tested above average for his age. That doctor cleared him to wrestle.

If the third doctor's tests have been done, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that results are being kept secret but they could be back in as Vince McMahon has reportedly been going back-and-forth on Bryan's status.

I think his career in WWE is over.

Although it would be epic if he was a surprise entrant in Royal Rumble and went on to win the whole thing. But thats so unlikely.

They not only need Bryan right now, but what a bs excuse. Vince and hunter have Been against the guy being a top dog since he first started getting over.

Vince and Hunter...:smirk2:

Anyways, really a shame that his career might be over. I think he has a few good years left in him, but the WWE is being really careful with the health issues with the lawsuits from last year. I don't really like him, but he doesn't deserve his career to end like this.

It's bizarre. They need Daniel Bryan really really badly right now and they're still willing to hold him down because they don't want him as their top guy.

This is exactly what WWE's problem has been throughout the years. Vince McMahon feels that he knows what the fans SHOULD want and he has stated that since he is a third generation promoter that he does know better. But it's idiotic. When he tries to tell people what they should like, his product suffers. It always happens but he is so pig headed and his ego is so enormous that he cannot admit that the fans know what they want more than he knows what they want.

Raw has been getting some of its lowest ratings since WCW was kicking its ass in the Monday Night War. Cena is on vacation, Orton and Rollins are injured and Lesnar is only occasionally around... and they still go through this stupidity with Daniel Bryan. The damn show needs him and they really need to get their heads out of their collective asses and realize they can't let their show continue to founder just because they are too stubborn to push someone they don't want as the top guy.

Suck it up, dumb asses. It's basic logic... fans watch wrestlers they like. Fans like Daniel Bryan. Fans will watch Daniel Bryan. Is it really worth watching your ratings continue to plummet just because you're too stubborn?

And no, I am not suggesting that Daniel Bryan coming back will be a complete answer to the ratings issues that Raw is having. However, it definitely is a step in the right direction.
