It appears that Dan Henderson be trying to regain his UFC light heavyweight title shot on February 2nd. In a live interview on Spike TV's Uncensored Live, Hendo confirmed that he will be facing former champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 156. The bout is probably a number one contender's bout, considering both men have claims for a title shot already.
Henderson (29-8) was scheduled to face champion Jon Jones at UFC 151, but was forced to pull out late with a knee injury. Due to the late notice and the champ's decision not to face replacement Chael Sonnen, the card was scrapped. Jones has now been booked as an Ultimate Fighter 17 coach against Sonnen, and the two men will face off on April 27th. Meanwhile, Hendo has been rehabbing his knee and Dana White made it known that Hendo would need to win another fight before he got another title shot. Enter the Dragon.
Machida (18-3) had apparently earned a title shot with an extremely impressive performance against Ryan Bader at UFC on Fox 4, knocking him out in the second round. But in the UFC 151 fallout, Machida turned down a short-notice title fight against Jones (the guy that choked him unconscious at UFC 140), and was put back into the queue as a result.
The main event of UFC 156 is a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar. If what Hendo said on Uncensored is true and the two men do meet in Vegas on February 2nd, this would have to be the co-main event.
Pretty awesome news. This card is getting crazy good.
