Dan Henderson, ‘Shogun’ Rua set to headline UFC Fight Night card in Brazil

The UFC’s unannounced card in Brazil has a main event.

Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua, who fought a five-round war in 2011, will face off one more time, as sources close to the situation told MMAFighting.com that the legendary fighters will headline UFC’s yet-to-be-announced card in Natal, Brazil, on March 23. Tatame first reported the news.

Henderson (29-11) entered free agency on a three-fight losing streak, capped off by a first-round knockout loss to Vitor Belfort in Brazil, but he recently agreed to a new deal with the promotion. His first fight of the new deal will be a five-round bout with Rua, the last man he beat inside the Octagon.

"Shogun" (22-8), a former UFC light heavyweight champion, returned to the win column with a first-round knockout of James Te Huna last December. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak to Chael Sonnen and Alexander Gustafson.

Henderson defeated Rua via unanimous decision at UFC 139 in Nov. 2011. The seesaw battle was considered the 2011 Fight of the Year.

The list of fights for the unannounced UFC card in Natal now includes:

Mauricio Rua vs. Dan Henderson
Cezar Ferreira vs. C.B. Dollaway
Jussier Formiga vs. Scott Jorgensen
Fabio Maldonado vs. Gian Villante
Ronny Markes vs. Thiago Santos
Rony Jason vs. Steven Siler

To be honest this fight doesn't really appeal to me. It wont live up to the first fight in part because both guys are older, slower, wilder, and more irrelevant than ever.

Yeah at first I was like... heyyyy then after thinking about it I was like... eh. It'll be a decent fight but won't be anywhere near as good as the first one. And that card... meh. But I'll catch it anyways.

That card looks pretty lacklustre though, so many nobody jobbers in the UFC thesedays.

Doubt I have to pay for this.

And yeah UFC and MMA in general have no up and coming stars. I think the reason is that the athlete aspect took over fighting, and left all the personalities out in the cold. I miss the Tank Abbotts, the Shamrocks, Tito, Rampages and Don Frye's of this world. Too many boring athletic guys taking up roster spots. UFC needs to look for personalities and protect the fuck out fo them imo.
