After watching the majority of his match on Superstars (I paused it so I could write this), I can see a lot of similarities in the way Jericho wrestled and the way that Hawkins wrestles. Firstly, they have the same appearance. Hawkins has this rockers-style gimmick with the long hair, and has the trunks that look similar to Y2J. Secondly, there was a spot where Hawkins irish-whipped Trent into the ropes, and caught him off with a chockblock to the legs. He immediately jumped out of the ring and began talking to the fans - A spot which I've seen Jericho do.

Along with the fact that I just genuinely see Hawkins going somewhere in the future, I really want him to be a pushed star on Smackdown. I mean, his run on Superstars is great and fine because it gives him exposure, but I would love to see him on Smackdown in the IC division.

Thoughts.

Why is it that whenever there is a new character, face or heel everyone starts throwing around comparisions to Jericho, HHH, HBK or other top guys? (not excluding myself, I've been known to do it from time to time)

Hawkins imo is just another "just kinda there" guy that will never amount to anything but maybe a midcard title run. Much like his EdgeHead counterpart Zack Ryder.

Chuckling as I think back to all the 'he'll be a world champ one day"-hype that Ryder used to get from the IWF whilst he was on ECW....

I agree with the topic starter. To also add onto his discoveries, I'd like to point out that they both have blonde hair. Definitely the next Chris Jericho.

I don't know about the next Jericho, but i've always felt Hawkins was a damn good wrestler with a lot of potential if they pushed him as a future star. Obviously he hasn't done enough and has been pushed as a jobber so people won't take well on the idea of him being as talented as the WWE main eventers. But honestly, i'd much rather see Hawkins get a run towards the IC title than most of the current SD mid-card (Ziggler, Kofi, MVP).

His mic skills also aren't even close to old-school Jericho's stuff, he's better than a few but not quite "Prime-time" ready yet, which could be why he's stuck in Superstars hell.

My main problem with Ziggler is he's the definition of generic, he has no innovative moves, no style or flash in the ring, no promo skills to speak of. His character is the most half-assed version of a ladies man gimmick in history, He's tan, comes out to a cheesy if catchy rock theme song, I mean wtf? I'd say he's almost WWE's version (skillwise) of Jay Lethal + Vickie. Solid wrestler/worker? Yeah, maybe, but he's in need of a lot of changes in and out of the ring if he wants to stay employed the next 5 years because "Dolph Zigglers" are a dime a dozen in WWE world minus his odd haircut.

He was much more enjoyable during his jobber days on Raw.

I don't think Ziggler has a prayer of getting pushed with a name like Dolph Ziggler. That goes on the wall of crap along side Gunner Scott, Colin Delaney, Curt Hawkins, Vance Archer, Lucky Cannon and Scotty Goldman.

I like Zigglers intensity, and he's got an old school look to him. But if it took you thirty tries to finally get a mid card belt under your waist, and only got it because an uber over heel manager joined your side, then you're basically hopeless.

As for Curt Hawkins, he's less than Zack Ryder. And I like Zack Ryder.
