Crossing the Damn Line alright

OK, to the ones that were around last night and saw the shoutbox with my little rant, then you know what this thread will be about.


Last night, at Slammiversary, we were treated with a promo of Samoa Joe, talking about how pro wrestling is sick and he is the cure, how he, by God, is pro wrestling. Joe, fuck you.

Seriously, we know TNA wants to make Samoa Joe their card of presentation to the world, a la WCW Goldberg, a la WWE John Cena, hell, they have every talent say Joe is the future on every interview they have(let's be serious, not everyone can think like that). But TNA has crossed the line on their hype. It's one thing to say Joe is the future, to build him as the face of the company(which is ridiculous to believe seeing what he was doing just 3 months ago, you know, battling to get more money on their contract). But another one to keep him saying he is the cure, he is what the business needs.

They are trying so hard, they are bombing. A year ago, the IWC had Joe as their best wrestler. Period. Now, almost half would argue you that point. 5 months ago, everybody was pleading for a Joe title win, now they are talking about failure.

And again, let's face it. It has been a failure. You can't talk about being the cure for pro wrestling when you can't get the crowd that sees you every show to cheer you on a PPV main event, or when the biggest rating you have drawn is 1.0.

In certain way, Joe's reign reminds of me Cena's one. They go challenge after challenge, beating after beating, and fans just get tired at one point. You know, the only difference is that one actually drew(no "well, one of them actually wrestles" jokes).

So, what are your thoughts on, not Samoa Joe's reign, but him being constantly billed as the "Cure of wrestling, as Pro Wrestling Himself"?

Samoa Joe deserves this type of hype, the guy has shown dedication to TNA even though he was not happy with his position. He stuck with them, and they eventually rewarded him with a World Title run. If people still don't want to watch then thats fine, but I really don't get what is so wrong with the hype he has gotten. He is the best wrestler in the world, the guy IS the face of TNA, and he actually deserves it unlike Cena. Joe can wrestle, Joe can cut promos, and Joe CAN draw, the hype he has gotten is awesome and I am enjoying every minute of his title run

I'm not with you on this one mate, Joe is an amazing wrestler and an amazing performer and he deserves everything he is getting. If only they could promote AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels the same as they have done Joe and then get Low Ki and Austin Aries back to create a new main event grouping of wrestlers because those guys would kill week in and week out!

I think he can draw, hell, it was because of Joe i stated watching ROH and then TNA, but you have to give it time, Kurt Angle can also draw, but you have to get the entire show right, not just the world champion character/persona. So I think Samoa Joe can make a good world champion but TNA just needs to sort out the rest of there product if they are going to become more of a challenger.

TNA's numbers have always been like that. So by your logic, every single TNA champion is a failure, and if so many people fail, it must be the company that's a failure.

I am comparing it with past champions. When Christian Cage was champion, TNA was having 1.1 ratings. With Kurt Angle, 1.2 and there was always the expectation of reaching 1.3. But with Samoa Joe, they have stayed at 0.9.

Sorry but determinating a wrestlers quality by ratings is stupid. The ratings isn't because of Joe its because of the company as a whole. Trust me if Joe was champ in WWE he wouldn't bring ratings down because they know how to market their champs. How do you expect him to be the face of the company when you don't even give a crap about him being champ, they bearly even hype him as the champ but when its Angle they kiss his ass,feet and balls at the same time. Just TNA is stupid.

first of all let me just say, lmao at the title of the thread (was it a pun...TNA cross the line lol.)

Now, Yes Joe has gobe a bit over bored saying that I mean, he is good but Nobody has the right to call themselves wrestling. I wanted Samoa Joe to win the title at first but after the past ratings and title defences I have seen I can't wait for him to lose it...He better pull his head in (the writing team) quickly otherwise they are going to lose more viewers and one of them will be me

To everybody who has posted in this thread that Joe can wrestle, you have to realise that doesn't make a damn difference. The Rock was never the greatest wrestler? No. But did he draw? Yes.

You see the problem is that Joe used to be this badass undefeated guy who would kill people. Everyone loved it, and he needed the title right then and there. He wanted it, the fans wanted it. But TNA didn't want it. They wanted to 'build him up' (seriously, how stupid is thta logic).

The fans continued to want him to have the title even after he was defeated, because he was still acting like a badass. But then something happened. Joe became a completely different man .... Joe became a cry baby. When Joe went to Cornette crying that he wanted a title match, do you think that endeared him to the fans? Did the crowd think hell yeah, this guy is a badass? No. They saw him as a whiny little girl, who had lost his image.

Now he's been pushed as the future of wrestling. The badass Joe, the crowd wanted him as the future of wrestling. But NO ONE wants a cry baby as the future of wrestling. No matter how good he is in the ring, it does not equal ratings. Joe has proven that.
