Leon Gary Plauché (November 10, 1945 – October 20, 2014) was an American man known for publicly killing Jeffrey Doucet (a child molester who had kidnapped and raped Plauché's son, Jody). Plauché shot and killed Doucet as he was being escorted through an airport by law enforcement to face trial for what he had done to Plauché's son. The killing occurred on March 16, 1984 and was captured on camera by a local news crew. Plauché was given a seven-year suspended sentence with five years' probation and 300 more hours of community service, receiving no prison time. The case received wide publicity because some people questioned whether or not Plauché should have been charged with murder. When he was questioned as to why he shot Doucet, Plauché contended that he was in the right for murdering Doucet for abusing his son and that any parent in a similar position would have taken the same action stating "if somebody did it to your kid, you'd do it too".[1]

On March 16, 1984, Doucet was flown back to Louisiana to face trial. He arrived at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport and was led in handcuffs by police officers through the airport at around 9:30 p.m., where Plauché was waiting for Doucet.[6]

An employee of the local ABC affiliate, WBRZ-TV, had told Plauché when Doucet would be arriving at the airport.[7]: 81  A news crew from WBRZ was waiting for Doucet and had set up their cameras to record his arrival. Opposite the news crew was a bank of payphones, where Plauché waited while talking to his best friend on a telephone. He wore a baseball cap and sunglasses so that no one would recognize him.[6]

As Doucet was escorted through the airport, he passed the news crew who were taping the scene. He then walked past Plauché, who fired at the right side of Doucet's head at point-blank range. Doucet fell to the floor, bleeding from a wound close to his right ear. Plauché placed the telephone receiver down before a police officer restrained him and removed the gun from his hand as the other attended to Doucet.[8] The officers who grabbed hold of Plauché recognized him. They kept him pinned against the bank of telephones, asking him, "Gary, why? Why, Gary?"[6] The incident was captured on video. Doucet fell into a coma, and died from the gunshot wound the next day.[9][10]

Plauché was initially charged with second-degree murder, but agreed to a plea bargain in which he pleaded no contest to manslaughter. He was sentenced to seven years' suspended sentence, with five years' probation and 300 hours of more community service, which he completed in 1989.[11]

Psychological reports helped Plauché's case after it was learned that Doucet had abused Jody months prior to the kidnapping. The psychiatrist Edward P. Uzee examined Plauché and determined that he could not tell the difference between right and wrong when he killed Doucet. Plauché's defense team argued that he was driven to a temporarily psychotic state after learning of the abuse of his son. Uzee also determined that Doucet had the ability to manipulate others and took advantage of the fact that Plauché was separated from his wife at the time, and had managed to wedge his way into the Plauché family. Judge Frank Saia ruled that sending Plauché to prison would not help anyone, and that there was virtually no risk of him committing another crime.[10]

In this house, Gary Plauche is a hero, end of story!

John David Norman (October 13, 1927 – May 22, 2011) was an American pedophile and sex offender convicted numerous times between 1960 and 1998 on charges of child molestation and child pornography. Throughout his life, Norman operated various direct mailing services dedicated to distributing child pornography and arranging sex trafficking. Among these operations were the Odyssey Foundation based in Dallas; the Delta Project, Creative Corps and M-C Publications of Chicago; and Handy Andy from Pennsylvania.
Norman is known for his alleged links to serial killers Dean Corll and John Wayne Gacy, the latter via Norman's associate Phillip Paske.
Henley gave a statement to police following Corll's death in which he stated that Corll claimed to be involved with a Dallas-based organization that "bought and sold boys, ran whores and dope and stuff like that".[23] Police stated they did not think Corll's other accomplice, David Owen Brooks, was involved with the Odyssey Foundation, but also did not rule out Corll and Henley as being involved,[4] though they stated they had no evidence connecting them to Norman's organization.[11] In 1975 however, Houston police reported finding pictures depicting eleven of Corll's victims during a raid on a child prostitution ring, once again raising the possibility of connections to Norman.[24]
Gacy implicated Paske, Norman and two other PDM employees as his accomplices in murder. He described Paske as dangerous and stated that he "pimped girls, boys, for sex or movies."[27][28] In a 1992 interview, Gacy claimed Norman and the Delta Project were producing snuff films of young boys, possibly including some of Gacy's victims.[22] At least two victims believed to have been murdered by Gacy, Kenneth Parker and Michael Marino, had last been seen alive close to where Norman lived.[29]

Jesus fucking Christ. And you know who turned out to be also pen pals with John Wayne Gacy? Brian Peck.

Nickelodeon's Brian Peck. The same Brian Peck that sexually assaulted Drake Bell, and so many other kids. The same Brian Peck who is one of Dan Schneider's close associates.

They're all fucking connected. Jesus Christ.

The 1951 Pont-Saint-Esprit mass poisoning, known in French as Le Pain Maudit, took place on 15 August 1951, in the small town of Pont-Saint-Esprit in Southern France. More than 250 people were involved, including 50 people interned in asylums, and there were seven deaths. A foodborne illness was suspected; among these it was originally believed to be a case of "cursed bread" (pain maudit).
On 16 August 1951, the local offices of the town's two doctors filled with patients reporting similar food poisoning symptoms: nausea, vomiting, cold chills, heat waves. These symptoms eventually worsened, with added hallucinatory crises and convulsions. The situation in the town deteriorated in the following days. On the night of 24 August, a man believed himself to be an aeroplane and died by jumping from a second-story window, and an 11-year-old boy tried to strangle his mother. One of the town's two doctors would name the night nuit d'apocalypse; apocalyptic night.[9]
In his 2009 book, A Terrible Mistake, author and investigative journalist Hank P. Albarelli Jr writes that the Special Operations Division of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) tested the use of LSD on the population of Pont-Saint-Esprit as part of its MKNAOMI biological warfare program, in a field test called "Project SPAN".[15] According to Albarelli, this is based on CIA documents held in the US National Archives and a document supplied to the 1975 Rockefeller Commission that investigated CIA activities. Albarelli's view was reported widely after the book's publication, including by The Daily Telegraph, France 24 and BBC News.[20] The attribution of the poisoning to the CIA in Albarelli's book has been roundly criticized.[19] Historian Steven Kaplan, author of an earlier book about the events, said that this would be "clinically incoherent: LSD takes effects in just a few hours, whereas the inhabitants showed symptoms only after 36 hours or more. Furthermore, LSD does not cause the digestive ailments or the vegetative effects described by the townspeople."[21]

Western Airlines Flight 2605, nicknamed the "Night Owl",[2] was an international scheduled passenger flight from Los Angeles, California, to Mexico City, Mexico. On October 31, 1979, at 5:42 a.m. CST (UTC−06:00), the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 used on the flight crashed at Mexico City International Airport in fog after landing on a runway that was closed for maintenance. Of the 88 occupants on board, 72 were killed, in addition to a maintenance worker who died when the plane struck his vehicle.[1]

Flight 2605 remains the deadliest air accident to have occurred in Mexico City. The event is the third-deadliest aviation accident on Mexican soil after the crashes of two Boeing 727s: the 1969 crash of Mexicana de Aviación Flight 704 and that of Mexicana de Aviación Flight 940 in 1986.[3] The crash was one of three fatal DC-10 accidents in 1979 and occurred just over five months after the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and less than a month before the crash of Air New Zealand Flight 901 on Mount Erebus in Antarctica.

Flight 2605 was on short final to the closed runway at 5:42 a.m. The cockpit voice recording of the last seconds of the flight indicates that the first officer and captain agreed that they were cleared for 23R, though they were still on approach to 23L. The captain realized this, saying "No, this is the approach to the god-damned left." With the aircraft at a speed of 130 knots (150 mph; 241 km/h), the main landing gear touched down, with the left gear on the grass left of Runway 23L and the right gear on the runway shoulder, producing a force greater than 2 g0. One second later, the crew tried to abort the landing and applied go-around power. The first officer began to describe the ILS approach's missed-approach procedure, a climb to 8,500 feet (2,591 m), in a "nonurgent, perfunctory manner" as the DC-10 once again became airborne. Approximately 3 seconds after the touchdown and in a 10-11-degree nose-up attitude, the right main gear collided with a dump truck loaded with 10 tons of earth.

The damaged aircraft, still airborne with takeoff thrust engaged, began to roll to the right. The bank angle increased until the right wing flap struck the cab of an excavator 4,921 feet (1,500 m) from the runway threshold. Panic ensued in the cockpit; Gilbert was heard screaming in terror while Reichel urged him to "get it up."[10] The bank angle continued to increase to the point that the right wing began to cut into the ground and taxiways next to the closed runway.[1][11] The end of the right wing eventually struck the corner of an aircraft repair hangar, causing damage to the hangar and also fracturing the DC-10's right wing.[1] The plane then impacted an Eastern Airlines service building[12] north of both runways, 26 seconds after it had initially touched down. This final impact caused the structural breakup of the aircraft, heavily damaged the two-story reinforced concrete building and caused a fire that consumed most of the aircraft structure.

I can't imagine how horrific it had to be in those final moments, knowing you were going to die and being unable to prevent it despite all your years of training, and all your hard work, this is it.

Kuru is a rare, incurable, and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that was formerly common among the Fore people of Papua New Guinea. Kuru is a form of prion disease which leads to tremors and loss of coordination from neurodegeneration. The term kúru means “trembling” and comes from the Fore word kuria or guria ("to shake").[2][3] It is also known as the "laughing sickness" due to the pathologic bursts of laughter which are a symptom of the infection.
It is now widely accepted that kuru was transmitted among the Fore people via funerary cannibalism. Deceased family members were traditionally cooked and eaten, which was thought to help free the spirit of the dead.[4] Women and children usually consumed the brain, the organ in which infectious prions were most concentrated, thus allowing for transmission of kuru. The disease was therefore more prevalent among women and children.

The epidemic likely started when a villager developed sporadic Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease and died. When villagers ate the brain, they contracted the disease and then spread it to other villagers who ate their infected brains.[5]

While the Fore people stopped consuming human meat in the early 1960s, when it was first speculated to be transmitted via endocannibalism, the disease lingered due to kuru's long incubation period of anywhere from 10 to over 50 years.[6] The epidemic finally declined sharply after half a century, from 200 deaths per year in 1957 to no deaths from at least 2010 onwards, but sources disagree on whether the last known kuru victim died in 2005 or 2009.[7][8][9][10]

Yeah, just kinda sad. Thankfully since the practice of cannibalism was ended by the Fore people, nearly all cases of Kuru has ended and there hasn't been a documented death from it since 2005.

Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182 was a scheduled flight on September 25, 1978, by Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA), from Sacramento to San Diego (SAN), with a stopover at Los Angeles (LAX). The aircraft serving the flight, a Boeing 727-214[a] (registration: #N533PS), collided mid-air with a private Cessna 172 (light aircraft; #N7711G) over San Diego, California. It was Pacific Southwest Airlines' first fatal accident, and it remains the deadliest air disaster in California history. At the time, it was the deadliest air crash to occur in the United States, and remained so until the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 in May 1979.
PSA Flight 182 overtook the Cessna, which was directly below it, both roughly on a 090 (due east) heading. The collision occurred at about 2,600 feet (790 m).[1] According to several witnesses on the ground, first, they heard a loud metallic "crunching" sound, then an explosion, and a fire drew them to look up.

Staff photographer Hans Wendt[4] of the San Diego County Public Relations Office was attending an outdoor press event with a still camera and took two post-collision photographs of the falling 727, its right wing burning.[5] Cameraman Steve Howell from local TV channel 39 was attending the same event and captured the Cessna on film as it fell toward Earth, the sound of the impacting 727, and the mushroom cloud from the resulting crash. For its coverage of the disaster, The San Diego Evening Tribune, a predecessor to The San Diego Union-Tribune, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1979 for "Local, General, or Spot News Reporting".

Absolutely terrifying situation, and the scars of this crash can still be seen in San Diego, a memorial still exists for it too.

Mike the Headless Chicken (April 20, 1945 – March 17, 1947)[1] was a male Wyandotte chicken that lived for 18 months after he was beheaded, surviving because most of his brain stem remained intact and it did not bleed to death due to a blood clot. After the beheading, Mike achieved national fame until his death in March 1947. In Fruita, Colorado, United States, an annual "Mike the Headless Chicken Day" is held in May. Mike has the record for the longest surviving chicken without a head on Guinness World Records.

Apparently a guy tried to cut the head off a chicken and it didn't die for nearly two years.

Pretty messed up. He should have put the chicken out of its misery.
