No idea.

In Rocky V, we saw the end of Rocky's career and him losing his entire fortune (albeit in some incredibly forced way, but I digress). I don't think fans would have digested hs death as well.

I disagree with Avildsen. The studios didn't "ruin" the film by having Rocky survive.

Yeah the story itself made it kinda bad, and make less money than the others. Still I kinda like the fight with Tommy at the end, in the middle of the streets of Philly. Knock this bum out, he took my ROOM!

I don't think I would like the movie just ending with Rocky dying. I'd have to see Tommy Gunn get his ass kicked if he killed Rocky.
