PALM COAST, Fla. -- A married couple tried to revoke the bond of a friend and physically drag her back to jail, deputies said.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Jose and Zaran Vega paid to bond a friend out of jail last week, but when the woman began popping pills again, the couple decided to revoke her bond.
Deputies said Jose Varga drove to a home where the woman was visiting on Sunday, and witnesses said he began yelling at the woman and told her she was going back to jail. Witnesses said he grabbed the woman by the arm and dragged her into his minivan, police said.
When the woman's fiance tried to intervene, Jose Varga punched him in the face and knocked him unconscious, deputies said.
Jose Varga then picked up his wife and took the friend to a bail bond business in Daytona Beach, where deputies stopped him, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies said the couple told them they were revoking their friend's bond and taking her to jail.
The Sheriff's Office said because they are not licensed bail bondsmen, the couple committed a crime by forcibly restraining the friend without legal authorization and holding her against her will.
Jose Vega was charged with false imprisonment and battery and is being held on $2,000 bond. Zaran Vega was charged with false imprisonment and is being held on $1,500 bond.
