Could he? He was finally getting a push over the pasty 6-8 months or so, as a heel, and was given a good reign as US champ and all that. However, he never really ended up getting over. Did he put on good matches? Yup. Did he improve a bit in mic skills? Yup. But was he as over as they hoped? Nope.
Now, he's lost the US title to MVP, and you have to wonder what's next.
MVP recently turned face, and you can see it will help him, maybe even push him to the main event. But Shelton just can't seem to get past the same level he's been at for the past 4 years.
Is there any way he can get over the hump so to speak? Could a face turn help him like it helped MVP, or has he eached his potential?

I believe a face jump for Shelton would be the added bonus to get him into the mainevent picture. I'm being totally honest cause I really enjoy watching Shelton wrestle cause he always puts on a good match. The one with MVP for the title Friday was great, and tbh I'm kinda glad he lost it. Now that MVP is US Champ, and a face, and most likely going to win MITB, I see Shelton maybe joining his side as a face on SD, say after the draft, if he goes nowhere

First of, I truly believe MVP was better of as a heel. Sure, his face turn is an improvement from being a heel jobber, but is it from when he was in the midst of his heel run? I don't think so.

As for Shelton, I don't think that he'll end up connecting with the crowd. It has been a long time now, he's been heel and face, he has never enjoyed overness. Face or heel, he will not make it. Midcard is where he will always be.

face.. heel.. tweener.. they tried everything with him and his best gimmick was as the Goldstander and still he did not bring much on the table. His skills are something else.. really a fine wrestler and very athletic! But when we talk about turns, charisma, gimmicks.. he will always be midcard material.

In order for him to have a sucsessful face run he will have to win MITB to win over the fans

I'd actually rather him stay a heel for a while longer. I always enjoyed him and his matches whether a face or a heel. He's been repackaged now, but he really hasn't done much talking. I know his mic skills aren't the best, but they are improving. In order to get good heel heat, you do heel things, cheat, down talk the fans, down talk the good guys, Shelton doesn't do that. If he were to do that, I'm sure he'd get over more.

Him going back to a face, if he were to become a face again, I'd like for him to do the storyline that I think Peep Show said in another thread. I think that would be the best way.

Shelton is a rubbish face and u rubbish heel. He is better off as a tweener, with high spots to be cheered and telling the crowd to shut up as a heel. That's what he would be good at.

He isn't high on my list of superstars if I'm honest, But saying that he has got my attention more so over the last 6 month or so. But i really don't think he will ever really get as over as they would like him to. He just hasn't got enough charisma IMO. In ring skills cant fault him his mic skills have improved he is very athletic and pulls off some good spots. But what ever he does he just cant seem to get that big connection with the fans. He has been here a long time now and has had some good pushes but never quite manages to get over. I think he is over as much as he is ever gonna be.

Bring back his mom, imo. Seriously, that was the best gimmick/chance he had.. I don't know why they dropped it. It coulda worked. =/

Shelton to me has always really simply blended in with the scenery. The only angle he ever ran that had me semi-entertained was the "Momma" angle. He really doesn't draw that much heat as a heel and I think his personality is far too generic to get him over enough as a face. I think if Shelton were to turn face he would need to seriously reinvent his entire character. There is no doubt that he can pull of some crazy spots, which automatically works in his favor for a face turn. However, not everyone is Jeff Hardy in the fact that they can get over on their move set and ripping off their shirt alone.
He's been there for quite some time and if it weren't for his talent in the ring I think he would have gone the way of his former partner Haas a long time ago. Shelton has always been a solid performer but honestly unless something severe is done to his character I don't think I (or any WWE fans for that matter) are going to care any more about him than they do now.

Lol nice, we both thought of that angle at the same time. But seriously, have her come out randomly when he's in a skit with MVP in the ring.

He was only ever entertaining when he was with his mom? Are you serious? Have people forgotten the great matches he's had with HHH, HBK, Christian, Jericho, etc during his run before his mom even came into the picture? All that shit with Vicsera/Mom/Himself was completely stupid as hell. I don't see how you could even call that entertaining.

Those were matches...not consistence. Sure, he's had some sick matches, that's undeniable. However a few great matches and spots really aren't a basis for someone like Shelton with so little else going for him charisma wise to get over.

Just another name on a long list of extremely talented workers that have zero charisma and no appeal to the fans. That's nothing new. And it seems the U.S title isn't a push as much as it is a prop that means almost nothing. How many times did Shelton get pinned while US champ? Too many to regard that strap as anything other than worthless, just ask MVP, he laid down like a million times as US champ. That belt doesn't constitute a push and hasn't meant shit since Benoit held it. That being said, Shelton has pretty much peaked. They've tried and tried, the fans just don't care. It's sad when the most he's been over is when they paired him with an obese black woman who was probably more over than Shelton. He doesn't have the other half it takes to be a main eventer, in ring ability can only take you so far.

I got so upset when they pushed the storyline with his mom. Shelton was doing fucking wonders for himself at the time. Wins over Triple H, Ric Flair, a great match against a young Orton. His shit with Carlito. Then he broke his hand :(. Then they brought his mom in :(.

Shelton as a face was cool as fuck. WGTT was cool. I think when they had him beat Triple H though, they could have skyrocketed his career. But they failed to capitalize, sadly.
