Yeah, will definitely pop into that thread.

The real ones to look at are Ferrari and Mercedes - if either pulls out the race would be cancelled for sure.

They'll probably cancel anyway given how many other events are being cancelled, but hey.

Yeah and if it happens it has to happen today with the first Race Sunday because you imagine the teams leave for the first Race days prior.

NCAA has already said they’re going to play their tournament in front of an empty arena. I’m sure it’s not far from being canceled either. With how easily this virus is spread, I don’t blame people for being cautious

Like I said in the general chat, the infectiousness of the virus is probably its biggest strength in terms of threat, but the mortality rate is staggeringly low for a "pandemic" virus. It burns through much of its victims, considering the incredibly high recovery rate of the disease. The worst thing to worry about is the aftermath of getting it, due to the threat of pneumonia.

If you actually look at the numbers, I reckon people are underselling the death percentages substantially.

Of closed cases, 6% have died, while 94% have survived.

Active cases: 90% are mild, 10% are in a serious/critical condition

Presumably the 2% figure includes all active cases alongside all close cases (many of whom will still die), and taking the current death figure as the numerator over all of these cases - this doesn't seem to be a fair way of calculating this at all.

Maybe I'm not being rational here but that's how I see it - happy to be proven wrong.

The big problem I'm seeing in places like Italy isn't the lethality, but he infection rate because hospitals are getting overwhelmed and more people are actually dying than they even should because of that...so the death rate for it should perhaps be even lower, but it's almost a logistics issue and that's why it's important that the infection rates slows down more than anything IMO.

You are absolutely being rational about it. The media is overblowing the actual danger of the disease, and the CDC, WHO's, and World Governments slow responses to the actual diseases have made everything 10x worse.

That's another thing too. Like the Spanish Flu, more people are dying because of the sheer number of people infected and the inability for hospitals and modern medicine to appropriately accommodate for them. That said, the Spanish Flu was a far bigger threat than Coronavirus is at this time.

I guess my Flyers will stay the number 4 Seed in the Conference now. Sad they could of been the 2 Seed they have been rolling. I guess a first Round with the Penguins and kicking their asses is a good pay off.

Last time the NBA suspended it's season due to their players getting sick was when Michael Jordan was playing with Bugs Bunny to save the looney tunes from slavery.

LMAO. Wow. Quality post.

All games across the sports through all leagues effectively canceled today.

As for media blowing it out of proportion. Thats not the case imho. I believe they are playing it smart and the things happening via media and how people are doing closures is smart until so they can limit the contagion imho.

And yet Mania is still on lol. They said they're giving it another week before they decide? It must be nerve-wrecking as fuck for people who have tickets and are flying in for it!!
