UFC star Conor McGregor is set for his first movie role.
Amazon Studios announced on Wednesday that McGregor will be playing a role in Prime Video's "reimagining" of the 1989 film "Road House." The movie will begin production this month and will be available on Amazon Prime Video when it's released.
The "Road House" remake stars Jake Gyllenhaal and is being directed by Doug Liman. Deadline noted that the role McGregor will be playing isn't known, but he'll be playing an original character and not himself.
The "Road House" remake "follows a former UFC fighter (Gyllenhaal) who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise."
The original "Road House" starred Patrick Swayze. It was announced in 2015 that Ronda Rousey would be playing the lead role in a remake of the film, but that never came to fruition.
"Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of 'Road House,' a beloved classic," McGregor's spokesperson Karen Kessler said. "While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming."
McGregor most recently fought at UFC 264 in July 2021, where he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier.
