The office of Congressman Cliff Stearns issued the following advisory on Stearns' website this afternoon:

STEARNS JOINS CHAIRMAN IN REQUESTING DRUG PREVENTION RECORDS FROM ADDITIONAL PRO WRESTLING GROUPS

REQUEST SENT TO TOTAL NON-STOP WRESTLING & NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE - WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT ALREADY CONTACTED

WASHINGTON, AUG. 14, 2007 - Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Ranking Member of the Commerce, Trade & Consumer Protection Subcommittee, joined the subcommittee's chairman, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), in contacting additional professional wrestling associations regarding their drug prevention efforts. Stearns and Rush requested this information from World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. last month.

"After I called for a congressional hearings on the use of steroids and other drugs in professional wrestling, I have heard from wrestlers that steroids, pain killers, and other drugs are used frequently in the industry," said Stearns. "Trafficking in steroids and other drugs is a felony and their use without a prescription is also a crime. In addition to ensuring that our laws are respected, Congress has a responsibility to protect young people from the harmful impact of drug use in pro wrestling. Some 1 million children under the age of 11 watch pro wrestling and many emulate the wrestlers they see."

The associations are asked to outline their drug-testing policies and efforts to detect and prevent the use of steroids and other drugs. As a result of the numerous premature deaths of wrestlers, in many cases involving drugs, Stearns and Rush have discussed holding a hearing in the fall to look into drug use within the industry.

it least now its not only the WWE getting targeted.

If this is true, keep in mind this is only a request. None of the companies are actually required to respond to this, unless a formal hearing is issued and a sepena. Would be intresting to see Vince McMahon, Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett all sitting at a table together infront of congress backing eachother up to the hilt. Could be like the tabacco distributors.

I didn't think TNA had any records on file of drug use and/or abuse it should be interesting to see how TNA responds. Like This Guy said before me it's only a request, but with the recent happenings over the past 2 months I'm pretty sure congress would go as far as it takes to obtain such files, if they do in fact exist.

I'm sure TNA must feel a bit idiotic about signing guys like Banderas (Who I can tell you personally has juiced up) and Test... Not to mention they have Kurt Angle on their roster.

this was going to happen anyway just to let you know...

I actually hope TNA starts a drug testing program because i've always wondered if some Wrestlers are on Steroids or not

TNA has no drug testing policy. So they wouldn't have any records to submit. WWE has had several over the years. The most recent being the Wellness Policy. I doubt any company will respond, but if Vince really has nothing to hide he would comply which would be a huge sign of faith on his part. Also I read Lance Storms coloumn on the Fight Network and he mentioned that in all the time he worked for WWE he had never been drug tested. However he was gone from the company prior to the wellness policy.
