He violated the terms of his contract, he shouldn't get anything.
The WWE were foolish to keep paying him, but I guess they thought he'd cool down and come back.

I kind of agree with @Tumbas on this. It would help if I knew if the guys were getting paid for their tv appearances though (are they?). I mean - it would make sense for him to not get paid for appearances for those 6 months as he was not there, but all that other crap merchandise they are still selling from the years he did work for them (game appearances, t-shirts, stuffed figures, action figures, posters, etc.), I think he should still be getting a piece of those sales. It is his likeness after all. Thats like WWE telling Punk he needs to completely change who he is because they own the C.M. Punk 'character' - which I don't think is true? They should either pay him royalties for that crap or STOP SELLING IT if they don't want to pay him his percentage.

Every WWE talent has a base guarantee pay (a downside). On top of that they get a pay per appearance bonus (as well as show opener bonus, main event bonus etc)

Ah, so they don't get any more or less depending on how their merchandise sells for a given time period?

Certain wrestlers had merch percentages. More or less big names. Punk got a cut of his merchandise. But this is about the video game royalties. the game is not punk merch, but WWE merch. Every wrestler in the game gets paid a base sum for participation, not per game sold

Right, I know that much. I guess I missed that this was solely based on the game royalties. Thought it was an overall wages type deal.

People sue to get money as compensation, right?

If CM Punk is "set for life" as he said, why would he need to sue? It's pointless and it's a loss for Punk, and I wonder if he thought if AJ will get any brunt of this? It's an idea that only dipshits, pussies and egomaniac's make, and CM Punk is all three.

People don't just sue because they need the money, they sue because they want more money or because they want money that they feel is entitled to them. Also many people see money as a measurement of their power and success, even if they have more than they know they could ever spend, they can never truly have enough of it. Some rich people have even been known to play the lottery on occasion.

But just because he didn't show up in 6 months, does not make his lose the right to be paid for being in the game. It's like saying in WWE 2K18 he shouldn't get paid if he is in that game. Just because his contract is up and he breached it, does not mean he can legally not be paid the royalties because he is no longer with the WWE.
I agree. You could say he's got a lot of nerve filing a lawsuit against WWE when they have a reasonable case for one themselves, but still, whether he was in the wrong for breaching his contract with them or not is irrelevant to whether he deserves to get paid video game royalties that are owed to him. Two separate issues. WWE shouldn't have continued to pay him after he walked out on them, simple as that. Plus, people are forgetting that Punk has copyright ownership of the CM Punk name and has repeatedly refused to sign it over to WWE, and so that means regardless of whether he was in breach of his contract or not, they should technically owe him royalties for using his likeness in a video game.
